Anyone else notice that if you play a 'monster race' in 4e...

Well, the default assumption of the game is that PCs are Heroes, and Evil doesn't suit them. It's spelled out pretty clearly in the in the PHB, so while the aforementioned "racial rebel" is not terribly original, it's well in line with paradigm. Do what you've probably always done, in every...

    4e's [W] damage discrepancy

Mearls has said rogues should be getting sneak attack most of the time, if not every round. I think that is quite feasible. I won't belabor the point any further. I think there is a discrepancy between those who use weapons, and those who don't. Particularly when you look at the warlock, who...

    4e's [W] damage discrepancy

But as Felon said earlier, this idea is circumspect when you throw in the Rogue, who uses [W] damage and gets special effects that hinder the target - and often allow the Rogue to deal more damage.

D&D 4E Is 4E doing it for you?

Not to mention that you could also control a second creature at the cost of your actions. (Unless you can only have one figurine of wondrous power).

D&D 4E Is 4E doing it for you?

I wonder why rolling for stats is so important to us DnD players. In storyteller, I pick exactly the stats I want. In Mutants & Masterminds, same deal. I decide what you want to do and your character is as effective as you want them to be. This does not work for a lot of DnD players I've...

    4e's [W] damage discrepancy

Wish I could give you some practical advice. I'm running my 1st 4e game this weekend, and I've only participated in a few playtests. I actually brought this issue up about a month before 4e's release, when all the preview stuff was floating around; I was basically shot down immediately. I...

Warlord. A bad or a good Cleric?

Warlords seem to be like bards in that they are a great fifth man (or I guess in 4e, sixth man), but as stand ins for another class (e.g., fighter, paladin, cleric) they don't quite cut the mustard. I like the class, but they are incredibly melee-centric, and it seems to me that you'd need at...

I was "booed" for even showing the 4e Core books

Of course, but it's not necessary to be rude about it. Whether that's what happened in this instance, I don't know. I wasn't there.

Night Hag... Give Me a Break...

You're right, I can see why it's problematic. The mention of "unconscious (no save)" seems to be the biggest problem. If I understand you correctly, if the power said "asleep (no save)," you would not have the same issue, and page 263 would be more appropriate. Unless there's something in the...

    3e, 4e, and Group Schisms

When 3e came out, it was a dramatic and wonderful departure from 2e. Universally accepted. When 4e came out, I didn't really have a group at the time. My current group is not that interested in it, but that hasn't kept me from playing with them (My love for 4e has not diminished my enjoyment...

I was "booed" for even showing the 4e Core books

I game with some folks who have displayed this attitude, though not quite with the same vitriol. I'm probably the most enthusiastic about 4e, so I tend to be the brunt of 4e related jokes. Most of them have played at least one game of 4e, with a rather positive response. One did not like 4e...

Night Hag... Give Me a Break...

Customer service rulings are circumspect at best. I realize it's the best thing to an official response, but you can't always rely on them. Aside from the customer service response, do you have a reference for this assumption? A page number, or even something in the Compendium? (I ask...

Let the Players Manage themselves Part 2

That's the way I read it. One might argue that by placing ongoing damage first, it downplays regeneration. Hm. I'm a little torn over this. On one hand, I would rather not my players and I decide willy-nilly when start-of-turn actions take place. On the other, I feel pretty strongly about...

D&D 4E Greyhawk 4e: Back to the Beginning...

I have no issues with reboots; as someone mentioned, we're not talking novels here. This is a campaign setting that has taken as many forms as there are DMs who have run it. So a setting should provide a strong framework for that to happen. So fast-forward, rewind, and anything else are...

The Red Dragon's Interview is up!

I dunno... I laughed at Record of Lodoss War a lot. Flawless Victory.

    D&D 4E 4e: the metagame.

Of course, and it certainly works. I played under a DM for four years who probably thinks very similarly. We played some of my favorite games, and whenever I'm behind the screen I do my best to emulate his improvisation and sense of story. It was truly his invention, and he knew it well and...

    D&D 4E 4e: the metagame.

I think there's a fine line between giving the player's the information they need to play the game and not breaking immersion. It's not an either/or thing in my mind, but a balancing act that can sway way one or another depending on the GM/players, and even session-to-session. It's the DM's...

    4E value < 3E value

Maybe some of you are... I dunno, taking this a bit too personally? Saying that one likes a book because it has a less cramped layout is not a thinly veiled insult or name calling. Saying that one does not like a book because it carries less information relative to its predecessors is a valid...
