    Taking a Break

I can agree with that. But here's the rub: I'm already doing it. Specifically, I don't visit websites and forums unless I care about the content. If I have a succession of negative experiences, I back off because it's not worth my time or energy getting embroiled in debates where hordes of...

    Taking a Break

Overall I've enjoyed this community. It's full of insightful gamers and a lot of free, original content. It's been a nice place to come and talk about and help improve my hobby. But the focus seems to have shifted in the past 9-12 months. The attitude seems to have shifted away from the...

That's it; I am done buying minis'!

Lots of folks don't like random miniatures (myself included). Since I'm not really familiar with the business model, I have to ask: doesn't that generally increase their profitability for the company while maintaining a reasonable price for the consumer?

D&D 4E Just played my first 4E game

Hey wow, a response from the OP 5 pages in! I wonder if I'll get another 9 pages in! :) There's only one thing I really want to comment on. Hey, you don't have to apologize to me. I was just trying to understand where you're coming from. You don't like it, that's perfectly fine. What I...

D&D 4E Just played my first 4E game

For me, this is a feature. Wizards have been brought in line with the rest of the classes, and there's a lot less opportunity for the wizard to outclass everyone at the mid- to higher levels. And wizards are still more versatile than any of the other classes in terms of Daily and Utility...

    Strength Paladin Build suboptimal?

Poor wording or not, given the examples we have the intent seems pretty clear. You do not need to meet the feat prerequisities to gain the benefits of a class feature.

    Strength Paladin Build suboptimal?

There's a great synergy with the Radiant Servant PP (which gives you a 19-20 crit with radiant attacks) and the Paladin's Radiant damage-dealing at-will attack (Holy Strike?) which is Strength-based. Having a 10% crit chance with a bread-n-butter power is nothing to sneeze at.

    What happened to "Race Matters"?

I don't know, I think race matters. I agree that more could have been done, but there is only so much room in a core book. At the most basic level, your character's race determines the classes at which your character will excel. If I play a Halfling, by examining stat bonuses and other racial...

Kalamar - first published 4e setting?!?

Professional worldbuilders? Professional game designers? Sure. Professional philologists? I can't answer that.

    Mathorian (Martial Defender)

Just out of curiousity (and you may have answered this in the pdf, but I can't look at it on my work computer), how have you gotten around the enhancement bonus issue for shields?

D&D 4E 4e's Inorganic Loot System: Yay or Nay?

I don't think you are forced in any way to distribute items in a rigid and exacting fashion. You can mix up the item distribution any way you like. You could even ignore the recommendation to give out magic items entirely and instead distribute an equivalent amount of gold. The only...

    Invisible Paladin

If you attack a square and the invisible paladin is in that square, he is one of the targets of your attack. So, no damage. Think of it as an area attack that is one square in size. If you choose a square that the paladin is not in, then you are not attacking the paladin and you take damage.

Rander dula blade damage and warlock's curse

    1) Depends on the weapon that's dealing the damage. In this case, a 1[W] main-hand attack will deal 1d8, a 1[W] off-hand attack 1d6 2) You only apply bonus damage once.

Coup de Grace vs. Players -- Mean DM or Fair Play?

I'm going to say it's a perfectly valid tactic, but should be exercised with restraint.

    The Iron Mage (WotST build)

I don't think one point of AC is something to be concerned about. Typically, the heavy armor classes have others things going for them defensively. I like this build. I wonder if it's possible to do as a halfling. I think your AC would be one point lower (can't get that 20 Int at level 1)...

    My player wants an enchanter

I think a Fey-pact Warlock with a different coat of paint ought to serve you well. "Reskin" some abilities: Shadow Walk becomes Beguiling Movement, rename Prime Shot to Enchanter's Presence. Maybe take away the Pact Boon and give him the Ritual Caster for free. That kind of thing. Perhaps...

Does anyone actually like Dragonborn and Tieflings?

Seems that most people do actually like them, or at least one of them.

    The tragedy of 4th edition.

Much as I like 4th edition, if they pull another 3.5 on us I'd probably sit that one out. 3.5 played havoc with my rules knowledge because of all the niggling changes. I'd probably continue to pick up new products under a "4.5" label, but new core books with errata? No thanks. To be fair...

Wrath of the Gods + Multiple Paladins = Broke?

I don't agree that all powers have an understood "power bonus," unless it's explicitly stated in the book somewhere (and I admit it could be and I haven't seen it, though that seems ill-advised to me). If a Paladin has a power that adds +5 damage to all party members and then the warlord gives...

You know 4th edition has succeeded when...

Lately, that seems to be the trend around here.
