    AD&D 1E PoD Reprints

It cost me £75 for the three books including postage, which I felt was reasonable.

    AD&D 1E PoD Reprints

It’s glued in, but it seems sturdy and happy to open with no creaks. Even the thickest book (DMG) seems very well made.

    AD&D 1E PoD Reprints

Just in case anyone was wondering about the quality of the PoD reprints of the 1e core books from DriveThru, I just ordered them in a fit of nostalgia since I sold my first edition books long ago. These are the Standard Colour Hardback option, and I am very pleased with the quality. The...

Which RPGs did you play in 2023?

Ran a supers campaign using Savage Worlds and the Super Powers Companion near the start of the year. Played through a heavily home brewed version of Rise of Tiamat using Level Up as the rules system. Also played a Faerun game, inspired by Descent into Avernus, but more about politics than...

    Seeking Rulebooks with Annotations

13th Age has designers’ notes throughout the book, discussing design decisions.

    Grade the GURPS System

That is a great bundle. It’s a stand-alone implementation of GURPS tuned to combat-spelunking, nothing else required to play. The rules are 99.9% identical to regular GURPS, with dials pre-set to appropriate options and some small quality of life changes.

    Grade the GURPS System

Savage Worlds is my system-of-choice now. It feels like the good aspects of GURPS 3e without the heavy weight of GURPS 4e, built on a pulp-action baseline. Pulp-action is my default for all the games I like to play or run, so that is a better fit for me. Ultimately, there is a level of...

    Grading the SAGA System

This thread inspired me to buy a copy of Dragon Lance 5th Age, which was much more reasonably priced than the Marvel implementation. I love collecting unique systems!

    Holler (SWADE) Post-Mortem

Sounds like you were on a loosing proposition - you seem to be running all the mechanics for every PC in addition to the NPCs.

    Holler (SWADE) Post-Mortem

Interesting observation. I also find that bigger groups lend themselves to broader strokes while smaller groups can get into detail more. I suspect it’s a combination of keeping group focus and having enough focus time for each player to get into the finer points of a campaign.

    Holler (SWADE) Post-Mortem

Difficulties aside, did you and your players enjoy the setting? It was a niche that didn’t speak to me personally so it is one of the few first-party Kickstarters for Savage Worlds that I didn’t back.

    Do you incorporate errata?

I do keep up with errata for my core system, and the publisher is good at releasing update docs with collected errata that get folded in to the next printing / updated core PDF. The rules are pretty solid and the errata are usually well considered In my opinion and experience of them. Back...

D&D feel/fun in games without class, level, etc. (+)

It was originally intended for BRP - I would have thought you could use it on top of Magic World or even OpenQuest if you wanted to have a simpler system than Mythras? Magic World might be worth checking out in general if it isn’t a version of BRP you already have looked at? It’s the...

D&D feel/fun in games without class, level, etc. (+)

The content is available from the Design Mechanism now. ETA: comparing the two versions, the TDM one is more complex than the original Chaosium one. But the TDM version looks to contain all the content from the original.

Heard about it many times, never had the chance to read or play it. Anyone know of any retro clones?
