D&D 1E PoD Reprints

Just in case anyone was wondering about the quality of the PoD reprints of the 1e core books from DriveThru, I just ordered them in a fit of nostalgia since I sold my first edition books long ago.

These are the Standard Colour Hardback option, and I am very pleased with the quality. The interior is very clean and clear, and the covers seem a good quality too with a consistent gloss finish.

I'm currently trying to settle on my next campaign. I was originally planning on using OSRIC, because of the really cheap Players Guide you can now get for it. But the ready availability of these POD versions of the originals is certainly making me reconsider.

What's the binding like?

It’s glued in, but it seems sturdy and happy to open with no creaks. Even the thickest book (DMG) seems very well made.

I've got numerous DriveThruRPG/DMGuild PODs for Basic & AD&D and they've all been high quailty. Haven't been disappointed in any yet.

Bear in mind that these likely contain the same errors that the original run of the "premium reprints" introduced (mostly because of scanning issues, as I recall):

The typos are annoying, but don't seem too problematic. It's only spellcasters that will really need their own copy.

I would still get OSRIC as a reference manual, myself.

I wish they'd make all the 1E hardcovers available as POD hardcovers. Last I looked, the Fiend Folio was still only available in softcover.

I really wish they'd make it possible to choose between hard & soft cover options for most of the books in general. Also wish they'd roll out POD versions for the many titles that remain PDF only at this time.
