D&D 5E (2014) Spells: the Good, the Bad, and the Downright Orcish Grandmother

Those aren't Witch Bolt's only problems. After the first turn it is generally less effective than anything else you can do. It only does decent damage on the first turn, it eats subsequent actions with your concentration, and it does truly terrible damage after turn 1, worse than almost...

    D&D 5E (2014) Please Support Eberron!

Done. Worthwhile charities and Eberron is the best setting D&D ever had. Long Live the Last War!

D&D 5E (2014) Am I the Only One Not 100% Impressed with the Monster Manual?

It's better looking, better organized and makes better use of its space.

D&D 5E (2014) Heavy Armour Master, how does a front liner survive without it?

That's true. It doesn't work against things it doesn't work against, but that doesn't change with level. How often you encounter effects that it doesn't work against depends on the DM. That's where the fallacy is. It is just as effective as before. If it knocked 3 off of 30 or 3 off of 3...

D&D 5E (2014) Am I the Only One Not 100% Impressed with the Monster Manual?

Where did you get the idea you were the only one "not 100% impressed?" Quite a few people have expressed dissatisfaction of varying levels. Ignoring how they statted some creatures, mine are: 1. Incomplete indexing - The table of contents at the front and the index at the back are basically the...

D&D 5E (2014) Please critique my firearm rules

I agree with this. I'm starting an Iron Kingdoms campaign so I had to create firearms rules for Civil War-Old west era firearms. I agree, don't bother with smoothbore as a trait; just decrease the range. It also won't matter much because PCs will graduate away from them in favor of better rifled...

D&D 5E (2014) Heavy Armour Master, how does a front liner survive without it?

That's a fallacy. The utility is always the same regardless of kobold or dragon so long as the number of attacks is the same. It's always -3.

D&D 5E (2014) Humans, am I missing something? And what's up with half-elf skill bonus?

+2 to your class' primary stat is still a huge advantage even if you roll for the stats, it just isn't as enormous. +1 to 6 stats is only of much value if all of the stats have strong value, which they don't. 5e like every other edition before it rewards you far more for maximizing your...

    D&D 5E (2014) Forced movement

Realistic? What part of D&D is realistic? If someone is being pushed off a ledge, realistically he grabs something or drops prone, or grabs the person pushing him. The problem is there are no rules to address the realistic. That's why the OP was asking the question in the first place.

    D&D 5E (2014) Challenge Rating

I suspected that was the case. Ty. Hopefully the next PDF will contain the rules so we don't have to wait for the DMG.

    D&D 5E (2014) Challenge Rating

Ok. I have my MM now and I've read through it. Does anyone have any idea how you figure out the CR for a monster? There doesn't seem to be any explanation on what the CR numbers comes from nor is there any explanation on how to change the CR if you modify the monster. If I have a hill giant who...

D&D 5E (2014) Please Put Spell Blocks in all Modules

My point is you are assuming that. I doubt they would ever reduce existing content needed to run a module so we can leave that argument out. The worst they'll do is continue as-is. 1. We don't know WotC is under any particular page count limit. They have told us repeatedly how much the...

    D&D 5E (2014) Optimal Multiclassing

Agreed. In my opinion multiclassing should give the player flexibility. It should not be useable to generate builds which are significantly more powerful that single class builds. If it does multiclassing becomes effectively mandatory for everyone rather than an option.

D&D 5E (2014) Cutting Words and game flow

That isn't what I said. The rule in question (Cutting Words) does not give the player an ability to see the DM's die rolls. Whether or not the table convention is to show die rolls already is a different issue. We are off the original question, but you are correct, they didn't write the rules...

D&D 5E (2014) Cutting Words and game flow

It doesn't need clarification. Your player is reading extra into the ability. Cutting words does not say the player gets to see the die roll from the DM or the other players. It's in the best interest of the players to let the bard see the roll, but the DM has no obligation to. The die is...

    D&D 5E (2014) Optimal Multiclassing

I wasn't the op but I'll expound. You need three separate charts to explain what stats you need and how your proficiencies and spell slots work. You also have to check four separate line-items for specific class features, one of which (spellcasting), then has three further subparts which may...

    D&D 5E (2014) Druid wildshape...

You are reading too much into it. "Unarmed strike" is exactly as described in the PHB. A creature attack is what is listed under its description. If it doesn't call it an "unarmed strike" it isn't one.

D&D 5E (2014) Please Put Spell Blocks in all Modules

The problem I have with this argument is you've never explained why you think adding a couple of lines of combat text for the creature's combat spells will effect any other part of the adventure. I may have missed it, but I don't recall WotC saying that anywhere. Same for them "catch[ing] no...

D&D 5E (2014) Please Put Spell Blocks in all Modules

I can tell you from running campaigns with lots of spellcasting npcs in 3e, it was slow as hell. I was delighted when 4e printed all of the creature's abilities. Groups of demons and devils in particular sucked in 3e because you had to waste so much time looking up what Chaos Hammer did for...

D&D 5E (2014) Please Put Spell Blocks in all Modules

You seem to enjoy going through that effort. Not everyone is so pleased to have to do it to make up for a printing deficiency. That also assumes you have the time to do it, you are by a computer, and are not running a pick-up game or something. Also by the same argument you can simply copy and...
