Character Sheet - condensed, reorganized, editable, auto-calculating (PDF)

About filling about the pdf... It's possible using Adobe Acrobat 8 (full version) to allow people to fill out the pdf using Acrobat Reader 7 or 8. It's apparently _only_ if you've got Acrobat 8. I don't have 7 so I've got no idea about that version, but I know it doesn't exist in earlier ones...

Character Sheet - condensed, reorganized, editable, auto-calculating (PDF)

Apparently Foxit is working on doing a version for Macs. I've got no idea what the state of it is, but apparently you can get a preview copy of the Mac version by sending and email here: support@foxitsoftware.com Try that and see if it works. Information from this thread...

Saying "Yes" and a fun moment to share

I'm glad it works for you. Saying "Yes" is a great tool for the GM. I've been doing it for sometime. The other one is "Yes, but..." Yes, but... is a slightly trickier one. GMs are inclined to stack so many negatives on that it's effectively "No!". The trick is to let the player have their...

Character Sheet - condensed, reorganized, editable, auto-calculating (PDF)

Use Foxit Reader and you're golden: http://www.foxitsoftware.com/pdf/rd_intro.php I _believe_ they've got a mac version. I'm on a windoze machine though, so I'm not positive. It's faster than Adobe Reader, and you can fill out the pdfs _and_ save them. The only thing it doesn't seem to handle...

How has the 4e/3e schism affected you?

To be honest, it's not really had much effect on me. I'm kind of amused in some respects, because at least some of the 3.x people yelling and screaming were also kinda jerks if you weren't playing 3.x to begin with. All of a sudden they find themselves being left behind. Then again, some of...

    D&D 4E Converting 4E bits to 3.X

Yeah. I simply cut it to "Everyone gets one attack a round. Add your BaB to the damage." Two weapon fighters I simply made a style thing; no mechanical benefit. If you desperately feel the need for a two-weapon benefit, I'd be more inclined to have the 2nd weapon add a bit to the AC or...

    Challenging Challenge Ratings...again

Soooo.... not actually a rules question here... I went out and got Grim Tales, in part because of the CR system. Was there a v6 actually done up, and if so what book has it these days? Thanks.

Q on Fantasygrounds, OpenRPG, DnDi, and other methods of online play

One advantage that a stand-alone tool has is that it's not dependent on someone else in the same way. So something like RPTools can be used by whomever, and if the website goes down, as long as someone's got copies of the tools to share out, folks aren't stuck. Reading over the Official D&D...

Q on Fantasygrounds, OpenRPG, DnDi, and other methods of online play

Weeeellll... that's part of the problem that the system neutral ones like Maptool and Battlegrounds have. You can do some primitive stuff for maptools in terms of adding notes to a fig. There is a tool that they've been working on that's eventually supposed to hook into Maptool/Initiativetool...

Q on Fantasygrounds, OpenRPG, DnDi, and other methods of online play

For free stuff, the Maptools series of tools rocks pretty seriously. And the developers of it are constantly working on it. The community seems pretty nice too. For pay... I can't buy it right now, but when I can I'm going to buy Battlegrounds. The developer works on it consistently, and...

    D&D 4E Converting 4E bits to 3.X

Actually, I think the easy way to handle that is to go ahead and let the player roll the damage as normal, and it just does "spillover" damage. Take the "average" or middle damage of the weapon type, and anything over that counts as an additional "hit". So a longsword does d8 damage, just say...

    3.5 or what?

Heh. I've been having badwrongfun for years. Oh, and in case someone thinks I'm throwing down for one side or another in the current edition wars? Nah, not at all. I don't own 4E but that's because I can't buy it until next year (long story). I doubt I'll run it, but I won't run 3.x without...

    3.5 or what?

There already kinda is. It's the General RPG Rules Discussion. Then there's the 3E section for houserules and 3E rule questions. I think any further forum splitting stuff simply leads to a more fractured "community". If folks can't be civil and not threadcrap, simply making another sub-forum...

Ever quit a gaming group because of another player?

Not necessarily. Folks play games for all kinds of reasons. Just because he's been playing with 'em for a while doesn't mean that he really considers them "friends". If they all go out and do stuff outside of playing rpgs, then maybe it's a different story. I do note though that he refers to it...

Ever quit a gaming group because of another player?

Sure, I have. Life is too short for lousy rpg play. I admit though, I tend to play rpgs in part for social reasons. So if the personal dynamics aren't working out for me, I'm outta there. Honestly, I don't see why anyone cares what it was that the other person did that you felt was a problem...

    3.5 or what?

I think you're operating under the assumption that this is a "3.5" or "3.0" forum. It's a forum that is strongly focused on the current edition of D&D, and also has support (or whatever you want to call it) for other games as well. The current edition of D&D is 4E, so now it's a forum with a...

Good zombie RPGs other than AFMBE?

Dead Meat by Sean Wipfli is free and seems interesting. Players are actually given several characters, since it's expected they're going to be eaten. Is that the sort of thing you're looking for? I can email you the pdf copy that Sean sent me. In general it can be hard to find online these days.

[3.5/OGL] Foe Factory fantasy product from Adamant?

Back in November, this nifty little product was put out. If you're not familiar with it, you can find it here: http://www.rpgnow.com/product_info.php?products_id=51080&filters=0_0_0&manufacturers_id=92 It's well worth the $4 in my opinion, and I try to pimp it when appropriate. It was stated...

Where did my options go? - The New Paradigm

Up until now I've been thinking I'd eventually wind up playing 4E just because it's _the_ game. Let's face it, in-print D&D is the market share of rpgs, and it's the game you're most likely to be able to find a group for. After having read the OP, I'm genuinely interested in trying it out. I've...
