I think you're operating under the assumption that this is a "3.5" or "3.0" forum. It's a forum that is strongly focused on the current edition of D&D, and also has support (or whatever you want to call it) for other games as well.
The current edition of D&D is 4E, so now it's a forum with a strong focus on 4E.
A while back people voiced concern that ENWorld would no longer be "a place for them" if they didn't "upgrade" to 4E. It was stated then that folks that wanted to stay with the older edition would still be equally welcome. As would Pathfinder folks and even those freaks (such as myself) that play other games besides d20.
*shrug*
If you're sticking with 3.x, about all I can say is, "Welcome to the wonderful world of playing a "dead game". Because that's basically the group you've joined. At least until Pathfinder comes out. Then maybe you'll be able to join the "nostalgia" gamer group.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. Right now the net is aflame with people that want to preach about how great/lousy 4E is. Eventually it'll settle down. Although you'll probably be subjected to the usual, "You should quit playing that old game lol, and start playing the game everyone else is." and other than that, you'll be able to get on with conversations about your favorite game.

To be honest, ENWorld seems like a decent enough place most of the time. Then again, I'm pretty selective about the forums I visit, and threads I poke into. It could be a wretched hive of villainy and scum, and I'm just a chump waiting to take a blaster bolt to the gut.
I'm enjoying it a lot more than other forums, that's for certain.
Give it a couple of months and it'll have probably settled down.
