Ever since the 4e kneepads have come out, I find myself coming to enworld less and less. Why are there so many 4e threads in the 3.5 forum? Does enworld still cater or am i in the wrong session?
i think they are working on a forum for 3.5 and older.

There's a 3.5 forum? Where? I don't see it. All I see is General Discussion.

Maybe you should ask Diaglo about how he manages older edition support. He's been dealing with it for years.

i'm sure that's where i'll be hanging out when here.

For those who are interested in remaining with 3ed, feel free to come over to our forums and help create a place where like-minded people can chat about 3ed D&D. It's a bit slow over there right now, so I see no reason why it couldn't be used to create a community of our own.

The Kyngdoms will be sticking with 3.5 (I'll be making an announcement about a new editon - The Kyngdoms: Ascension - in the forthcoming weeks) and, if there's any interest in folks wanting to use the forums, I will try and get those publishers continuing to support 3.5 on board by releasing announcements there, etc. Over time, I'll also be lookingto add the whole of the SRD to the site.

Basically, if you're looking for a place to chat, here's a place that's open. The Kyngdoms is essentially free, so there's no waving it in your face - it'll be just a forum to talk about the things we enjoy. I'll also be happy to host relevant reviews, conversions, etc. I'll also be happy to host a forum for people's personal (3ed) games.

Anyway, it's just a thought and an opportunity for folks to help create a new little community for those 3ed fans looking for a new home.

If you're interested then come over, sign up and make some posts. Get some chat going. If not, then it'll remain our little quite bit of the internet :)

Just an idea...

Dude, it looks like that guy needs all the credit he can get. So, let's congratulate him on his one small example of sly wit rather than deride him for it.

Honestly, the arrival of 4e doesn't disturb me a bit. In a few short years, the "Edition Treadmill" will be in full effect, and 4e will be out of print. It'll be replaced by "4e revised", or "4.5", or "5e". Meanwhile, OGL games like Pathfinder will still be running strong. So I'm not worried. :)

Pathfinder looks to be an awesome game for those that don't mind the imbalance of certain things in 3.5, but if you for one second think that (assuming it is successful by whatever standard Paizo sets) Pathfinder won't have editions or revisions, then my friend, I have got a bridge for sale. Please mail me at oldcutebridgeforsale@fools.com

Oh noes! I'm having wrongfun.

But damn, it's some good wrongfun.

Heh. I've been having badwrongfun for years.

Oh, and in case someone thinks I'm throwing down for one side or another in the current edition wars? Nah, not at all. I don't own 4E but that's because I can't buy it until next year (long story). I doubt I'll run it, but I won't run 3.x without heavy modifications too.

I play and run these things for fun. I'm not joining some idealogical party. I'm playing a game. So the edition wars don't mean anything to me. I play a game (or run it) because it sounds cool to me, and _that's_ the reason I made my comment about playing a "dead game".

Heck, I'm just getting around to running/playing Secret of Zir'An for my wife and I. A "dead game" that's always pooped on by people online.

And let's also congratulate you on your small example of how ignoring a mod's warning to be civil gets you kicked out of a thread! Your insulting snark is not welcome. Don't post in this thread again, Kwalish Kid.

The next person who cannot keep their stunning wit in check can have a vacation from the site.

See? This isn't helping. When people in the 3rd Edition forums express their annoyance at the "get it or get out" attitude of 4th Edition fans, they refer back to posts like this to prove their point..

Look, it really is the current edition of D&D (4e) and everybody else. It has been that way since D&D first hit it big.

Those of us who play fantasy RPG's without the D&D label have known this for a long time.

AD&D 1st was replaced by AD&D 2nd.

Many times it is pointed out what a bad edition AD&D 2nd was. But even with the gross mismanagement of TSR, 2nd edition still had to physically go out of print for it to stop being the #1 selling RPG. And when it went back into print, it was right back at #1.

Until it got replaced by 3.xe. Which has now moved to 4e.

This is not a slam on 3.x or any other previous edition - it's just reality.

So please...stop the biting sarcasm and overgeneralizations. If nothing else, you are making 4th Edition sound less appealing to people who mnight still be on the fence about it.

My little old and busted / new hotness may have been sarcastic. But it also had a lot of truth to it.

I was at borders yesterday and I saw a lady who worked there re-stock the shelves with the new 4e books. 4e is selling like hotcakes, it is the new king of RPG's, and that's a fact.

If people still want to play 3.x Great! If that is their RPG of choice - good for them.

Personally, my advice would be to play the game that you like most. No one is forcing you to change editions, so if you don't want to - don't.

But don't think that things will be like they were before when 3.x was king, because now it's not.

I was just trying to highlight that unless you play the current edition of D&D you will not have access to the same large & willing player base as you may be used to. This is a fact.

Now for those with established groups - it isn't an issue - but for some it may be.

Like I said in my post - in a few years 3.x players will be just like the rest of us who play alternative fantasy RPG's. In general, you'll have a much harder time getting a group together out of the blue.

These are realities that many who want to stick with 3.5 will have to face.

There's no pont in being miffed about the amount of traction that the latest edition of D&D (4e) is getting, and how thier favorite game is being pushed to the sidelines.

It's just the way the RPG world has worked for many years. Like I said: Welcome to the Club.

It's just funny to me that some seem to be clueing in on that fact only now, with the introduction of 4e.

We're working on it - it's a bug, not a feature. That's not a sign of 3E favoritism, it's a holdover from last year when the primary discussion WAS 3e, and 4e and 1E threads were the exception.

For now, I encourage people to put "(3e)" in their thread titles if they're wanting to discuss it, to hel;p people eyemark it until we get it straight.
Thanks for explaining that, Henry. I was hoping it was just a bug.
