3.5 or what?

Do we really need another forum split?

What's next? one forum each for OD&D, 1st, 2nd, and so on and so forth?

And yeah, the 'Kneepads' comments was way out of line, and quite insulting for people who like 4E.

I approve of this message.
I don't. So now we have two nobody-important votes. So what?

3.x = Old and Busted!
Works just fine for our campaign and our dice and pencils still work too.

4e = New Hotness!
That's your opinion and you're welcome to it.
Jaeger said:
4e is D&D. You'll just have to face reality and get used to it.
No one said otherwise. All editions are D&D. So what? D&D is just a label anyway. I'm just fine with reality. I don't really care what other people are playing. I also don't care what they're watching on TV or what soda they drink. I've never been a crowd-joiner and that's a fine old gamer tradition. As for for me and mine, we'll continue playing and refining 3.5 and probably save a great deal of money as well.

In a few years 3.x players will be just like the rest of us who play games like Reign, Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay, Burning Wheel, Runequest,and other fantasy games not called D&D. Now your game may say D&D or AD&D on the cover - but if it is'nt the latest edition, you'll soon be in the same boat as the rest of us.
We still play chess and it's not exactly a new game. What does the age of a game have to do with anything? I still play and enjoy lots of out of print games. I've even taught my kids how to play them.

You'll just have to accept the fact that you enjoy playing an RPG that doesn't give you access to the largest player base in the world.
What difference does that make? So I don't fit a particular marketing demographic. So what? Plenty of nasty unpleasantness in that player base too, plenty of people not to miss associating with.

Because there is the current edition of D&D, and then there is everybody else.
How very narrow-mindedly black and white.

Welcome to the Club!
I don't know about anyone else still playing their flavor but I don't feel very welcomed at all. Quite the contrary.

Of course if you don't like that idea you can always switch to 4e...
So this is how we answer the simple question: where can I find the forum for my edition of D&D? Shameful.

I'm so glad we live in a country where this sort of thinking doesn't run rampant or we'd all be forced into one religion, one politic and one set of narrow beliefs. Don't tread on me.

Actually some of my fellow players are sticking with 3.x and simultaneously grateful for 4e.

Because now they can buy a lot of 3.x books for cheap, cheap, cheap! :)

And if a forum split will cause peace, I am for a forum split.

I think there should be a forum split, even if there's just a small sub forum for those 3e players who don't think 4e is the messiah of D&D editions. :-P

Amen! A forum for 3.X (i.e. 3.0, 3.5, 3.75./Pathfinder) would be wonderful!

I guess I just get the feeling that enworld is doing the same mistake that wotc is doing, which is switch to 4e or get out, which is driving up my post count on paizo's message board.

There just seemed to be no place to just talk about 3.5 on the boards anymore. I"m not here to touch the validity of an edition, only to ask where is the place where we talk only about 3.5. I'd rather have discussions with people who didn't use "hotness" to discribe rpgs.

Well, if it's a mistake, it is a mistake of the ENWorld community as a whole.

Apparently, few like to create new 3E pure related threads, nor to read or post in them. The mods don't forbid them, there are actually two 3E only forums available (rules & house rules), and there is one General Discussion forum that isn't supposed to focus on any game at all.

But can you "steer" a community to change that?
I suppose not, and using a different forum might be the only way to do it. Or just waiting a little bit? Maybe all this edition comparisons will go away eventually... I mean, people are still able to discuss entirely different games (like GURPS or Exalted), and usually only discussing different editions of D&D cause trouble at the moment... (If that is indeed true. I am only mildly interested in discussing 3E now, so I have a skewed perspective...)

Dude, it looks like that guy needs all the credit he can get. So, let's congratulate him on his one small example of sly wit rather than deride him for it.

That's ok, the entire "kneepads" comment went completely over my head, I have no idea what he meant by it. IOW, for me at least, it wasn't that witty ;)

EDIT:Saw Umbran's warning just under Kwalish's post...this isn't snark at all, I seriously need clued in to what the heck he meant. Witty commentary typically relies on a shared assumption of meaning and I don't understand his usage of the word kneepads at all.
