TSR Example from the worst TSR adventure module(s) ever published

Oh. My. Gawd. Whoever wrote this module (and I strongly suspect it was the Great Cthulhu himself) is like an evil James Joyce writing a demonic version of Alice In Wonderland. I love the second example; "It is plain that they are not soldiers by their haphazard way of walking. They do not...

    Your First magical Item

I had a stuffed bunny that would tell me great and terrible secrets in the dark, after he had put my parents to sleep for the night. Oh! You mean in D&D! Some kind of cursed boots that made my character dance himself to death. I remember thinking of those same boots later in Jr...

    Recommendations Please: Rules-Lite Modern Game?

It would take a little work, but I would look into True 20; probably the best, fastest rules-lite D20 system out there. I'm using it to run a Star Wars game, with only a minor hitch here or there when a missing rule needs to be invented on the fly. Look to Mutants & Masterminds to get an idea...

A Whole Bunch of Zombie RPG Questions

No kidding. Given that; 1. Humanity is what it is And 2. Rednecks seem to have a knack for surviving zompocalypses The idea of seeing a bunch of undead in a cage while Bubba puts money on one of them over his beer and pork skins doesn’t seem that far-fetched to me.

A Whole Bunch of Zombie RPG Questions

All Flesh Must Be Eaten is simply the best Zombie RPG out there- it’s fast, simple, and amazingly versatile in the number of zombie-like settings the system supports. The point-balanced make-your-own-zombies rules in the core book ensure that your zombies react just the way you think they...

What monster killed your first PC?

My early characters never “died” so much as simply had no personalities and thus were not worth playing twice- I guess you could say that "bad roleplaying" killed my 1st character! I do seem to recall losing a character to a carrion crawler- very frustrating at the time… But NOTHING and I...

WOTC, when do we see a commercial for D&D on TV???

I guess it’s the elitist in me?

WOTC, when do we see a commercial for D&D on TV???

If I ever see a D&D commercial, I’ll quit playing.

    Best Magic System

Within D20, the best magic system I have ever seen is found in True 20. No more %$#@ spell slots! Outside of D20, I think White Wolf’s “Mage” was pretty good… But that probably doesn’t count since the entire game was about using magic.

We are all ugly and alone...

Because I was such a big dork in high school, I got really depressed- my life degenerated into drugs, booze, heavy metal, and whatever forms of self-destruction I could find. The effect being that I was really popular in college. Sometimes when something went wrong, such as someone puking...

    Would/Do You Wear A D&D T-shirt In Public?

    I don't wear shirts.

DM overruling a Player's play of his character

If this becomes too big of a problem, I would just set up an in-game mechanic for it; a will or fortitude save or somesuch to avoid screaming. Good "roleplaying" has very little to do with deciding if a character would scream or not, and such distractions probably only serve to slow things down...

    Are PCs completely unpredictable?

My players pretty consistently: 1. Cannot solve the easiest, most painfully simplistic puzzles that a brain-dead gopher would solve in three seconds or less on accident. Even if point-blank told what to do through NPCs, the party still gets hopelessly stuck. If an assassin is standing...

I cannot say enough good things about M&M. Just get it.

All in good fun or too offensive

I would agree with this, though it doesn’t necessarily have to be a combat encounter- any dramatic situation that would encourage both sides to work together would work. As in real life, sometimes the only way to get people to work together is to introduce a third-party threat.

    ability roll cheating

    1. Kill this character -Just announce he’s had a major heart attack from all the performance enhancing herbs he’s obviously been using. 2. Use point-buy from now on.

    Tell me about True 20

I’ve found that the "blanket statement pro" of True20 is that it runs faster, smoother, and lets players get right to the actual role-playing of the game. No shuffling through countless charts to figure something out. No holding up the game to debate ambiguous rules. Combat is far less “clunky”...

Has the age of the big book arrived?

I like big books and I cannot lie, you other gamers can’t deny…

You are in charge of WOTC.......

Here’s what I would do differently: Step 1: Redo D&D from the ground up, using True 20 rules. (This would fix 99% of the problems everyone complains about.) Combine the PHB & DMG into one core book, and have world books sold separately (each containing different antagonists and...
