D&D 5E (2014) Martials should just get free feats

I'd say in this case it was excellent logic, for his game. I'm not seeing a problem in my games either, so AFAICT that means there's no problem in my games.

    D&D 5E (2014) Free 60+ page Guide to Sword & Sorcery for 5E D&D

Copyright is author's life +70 in the EU. Copyright is typically assignable (though not in Germany) but EU copyright laws have no 'work for hire' doctrine. Copyright does not require enforcement to maintain validity.

    D&D 5E (2014) Free 60+ page Guide to Sword & Sorcery for 5E D&D

The (very good) Dipur stuff on the website is statted for Legend. Easy for me to convert to Dragonbane, even easier to Mythras. :)

D&D 4E Reconciling 4e's rough edges with Story Now play

I just meant that 5e is very easy to drift to preferred style. Whether it's fun or not for you is a different issue. 4e is much more tightly designed IME and strongly resists drifting to any kind of simulationist approach.

D&D 4E Reconciling 4e's rough edges with Story Now play

Hm, I think 4e Essentials often made it worse not better; since there are chunks of half-arsed support for simulationist play in there as part of Mearls's attempt to salvage the game. But 4e was never going to be an all things to all people game. 5e achieved that goal very effectively.

D&D 4E Reconciling 4e's rough edges with Story Now play

I think you have it right; it's part of 4e's weird incoherence. It really wants to be a Story Now game, but is afraid to come out and say so.

    D&D 5E (2014) Could D&D Die Again?

It could go dormant as in 2012 & 2013 after the failure of 4e. People will still be playing D&D though.

    GM: Table Leader

Yes. But a good leader knows when to delegate. Some of my favourite GMs let the players handle the rules stuff. You don't need to wear a Viking hat to be a good GM.

D&D 5E (2014) If you use thunderstep but teleport less than 10 feet do you take damage?

Lead blocks teleportation in some previous editions. Whether it does so in 5e is up to the GM.

D&D 5E (2014) If you use thunderstep but teleport less than 10 feet do you take damage?

How the spells work seems to be up to the GM, especially since 5e has scrubbed all the flavour text. I certainly wouldn't be happy with a player who argued that eg lead couldn't block teleport because it didn't say so in the spell description.

D&D 5E (2014) If you use thunderstep but teleport less than 10 feet do you take damage?

I'd rule that the PC was in the Feywild(?) for much less time than the duration of the breath attack, so no by me.

D&D General Why would someone that's the heir of both A Very Minor Duke and A Minor Baroness become A Adventurer?

Anyway the obvious answer to OP is because his eldest sister is actually the designated heir to both titles, not him.

D&D General Why would someone that's the heir of both A Very Minor Duke and A Minor Baroness become A Adventurer?

It makes not a lot of sense on the face of it that his mother has a Baron title but that his sisters cannot inherit it. The exception I can think of is English monarchy male primogeniture where a woman could become monarch but only if she has no brothers. That is a rare exception & I don't...

D&D 5E (2014) How broken is Long Death Monk at 11th level or higher?

Pyroclastic Flow isn't lava. You can swim down in water because humans & water have similar density. Lava is several times denser than humans; IRL you could not swim down in it. You can walk on some types of lava. Movie lava generally behaves like water though and I see no issue with having...

    Anyone else backed Dragonbane?

Starting DB characters can easily take down a Troll - they don't equate to level 1 PCs, more like level 3. I personally wouldn't give advancement rolls, I might give out an extra HA though. If generous you could give 3 extra HAs, 1 per extra level; I'd suggest +2 WP +2 HP and one of player choice.

D&D 5E (2024) How to simply balance ranged weapons.

Reactions are for 'at once', otherwise the events of a round are supposed to be smeared out over ca 6 seconds. I just don't think this works well with the combat system as written.

D&D 5E (2024) How to simply balance ranged weapons.

The problem is not the idea of shooting leaving yourself open, more that it should carry over to attacks several seconds later. A crossbow is a better parry implement than unarmed yet uarmed PCs don't grant advantage!

D&D 5E (2024) How to simply balance ranged weapons.

Yes, I think characters are too slow relative to attack rate. Doubling everyone's movement (perhaps through some special Actions like 'sprint' and 'charge' that you can't use while shooting) would help fix that.

D&D 5E (2014) How broken is Long Death Monk at 11th level or higher?

I'd house rule it that massive damage can still kill, ie drop to negative max hp, very unlikely in play but would prevent extreme case abuses.
