I'm starting the 5th book of this series. I would recommend Steven Erikson to anyone who likes well crafted worlds, engaging characters and rich storytelling. (And the same goes for the Black Company books. Glen Cook made dark fantasy what it is today.)

I like both personally, but as Crothian said psionics seems always to be an after thought. Elves on the other hand are very iconic to DnD going back to the Tolkien influences. I voted psionics btw.
