    Clerics and their faith

I have used a philosophy based religion in my games since early in my 1E days and have had few problems. Only once did I have a player refuse to participate because of the no god rule (he followed Thor in all games he played in). The biggest issue has been following alignment. Players tend to...

    Any good town maps?

I just wanted to compliment Zagorm on Fishside, and add a reminder to anyone designing these town maps. Most are far too sterile, lacking many of the outbuildings that tipify rural culture, especially agricultural villages, as well as the local industry buildings necessary in a world with non...

Miniatures - Where do you buy yours?

Goto the source! www.reapermini.com/ Reaper's in house online sales have been very reliable and friendly when I used them, and shipping has been fairly prompt, always less than a week.

"Buy the numbers" ... for races?

I already went the route your looking at. I returned to some systems like FH and RQ that I had played in the past, and tried HARP. In the end I realized bringing myself up to speed on a new system was even more work than revising what I didn't like about d20. Plus each of the other systems had...

Don't run away, you make me angry...

While running away has a fine tradition, there are three weapons that can help you fighter rectify the situation; Bola (ranged trip attacks), Harpoons (for that "Y'all come back"), and Man Catchers. I know they are in Sword and Fist, but I believe they have also been updated for 3.5, I'm just...

What has gaming done for you?

Sure gaming is where I met my wife and many of my friends, and helped me develop social skills I probably wouldn't have otherwise, but I have found gaming was also a better prep for me professionaly than any college course I took. DM'ing taught me how to handle people in a way that allowed...

Tannery, Magical hides and a fight coming up. Help me please.

While the acids are weak, there should be several large cauldrons full of boiling water and hides. They can either have fires directly under them or sit on raised stone furnaces. Optionally treat the hanging hides as cover, at least for the big guys. It gives the short folks a real advantage...

Omniscience and Impotence in RPG Legal Systems

You're right, this is a tough subject that is usually glossed over for reasons of gameplay. Any legal system used must conform to the needs of the game. Some of the things I've found to work in the past for punishments include; Fines Historical legal codes are great, many go so far as to...

    Recommend Alternative Alignment Systems

I tried a similar system, and then corresponded the values to a RGB color wheel. Thus when detect alignment was cast I simply had the computer screen fade to the appropriate color. It was fun, but I never got the bugs worked out before dropping alignment altogether.

    Critique my campaign idea

Rather than ambushing the army in the swamp have them trapped. No one need know exactly what happened until the right moment, but an army trapped, by magical means or mundane, can be a great plot hook down the road. Perhaps they drank from a magical pool and were changed into something, or...

Free Fantasy Architecture II (New Stuff 5/3/2005)

I was wondering if I could tempt you into illustrating the inside of a cathedral for my current game. The basic design is octagonal, with a wide double doored entrance opening onto a hallway that leads completely around the inner sanctum. Pillars seperate the hallway from a series of colliseum...

    Illusionists?

The problem with illusions is that they take away from the DM the sole ability to describe a scene. This makes things take longer, but when the DM is fair the game is benefited for having them. I like the current system, it answers some old questions that hindered the earlier additions (can...

    looking for online game.

If you go to http://rpol.net/ my game is listed as Noseign wakes under the Medeival Fantasy section. You can look at the online stuff so far and PM me if you're interested. Its a low to mid magic setting focusing on intrigue with some combat. A rogue would be welcome. There's an abreviated...

    I just bought Frostburn

Not a whole campaign, but I am planning on an adventure that drags the PC's through a long wildreness trek during winter. And I will use it when I run my "Fortress of the Gods" scenario, which deals with a castle located beneath a polar lake/glacier, fifteen thousand feet above sea level...

    looking for online game.

I have a PbP game over at Roleplay online that needs another player or two. It's a D&D 3.5 game in a homebrew that was intended for some of my players who have moved, but two haven't been able to join in for health and personal reasons, so I'm left with only two for now.

How many of you have tried designing youor own game?

I've designed a couple, and like most the rules were poor "tweakings of things I did and didn't like about other systems. In the end I had spent too much time on things that had the life span of a gnat. The one time I did like the rules I used was in field camp when I had a few people who...

    Rules for Drinking

The arms and equipment guide had some good drinking rules. They use a fort check vs. the type of drink, with cumulative penalties for additional drinks per hour. Failure inflicts Wis and Dex damage. This has worked well in our campaign, sure beats 1ed's giving drunks additional hit points.

Odd medieal English custom, can anyone back this up?

There was, but I can't speak to it, as I was an independent arbitrator for the involved case, but I can say that there are trusts holding property in the US that predate not only the revolution but all common sense as well.
