    My COVID19 Journey

I am from Seattle, and still in Seattle, working in Chinatown, actually. Me, my wife, and my son are all in essential services, we we continue to work, continue to carpool. Chinatown has become a wasteland. The few people out and about all wear masks, businesses are shut down. Even most of the...

    AD&D 1E Edition Experience: Did/Do you Play 1E AD&D? How Was/Is It?

AD&D 1e was the game my best friend and I transitioned to after playing the blue box. At the time, I never really considered that we had changed games. We just used the "advanced" rules for the game we were already playing. I played the same character, and suddenly had to roll percentile dice...

    D&D and the rising pandemic

I already game online, and last weekend my online gaming saw its first corona-related hiccup. One player had been working from home and needed to makeup lost hours, while another was going emergency supply shopping with family. Still, only a hiccup. The week before we had minor roll20...

Critical Role Wildemount has new subraces and reprints a ton of others

I've made a habit of calling Half-Elves "Elfkin" and Half-Orcs "Orcs" (from a human POV) or "half-bloods" (from the Orc POV). Can't use "Orckin" because then everyone will ask them to exterminate their termites and such.

Critical Role Wildemount has new subraces and reprints a ton of others

I got my copy yesterday. So far, I am liking what I see... except I don't like and probably won't use several of the races that made it into the book... at least as PC options. More study needed. But I bought it for the setting info, to possibly use ideas from there to supplement my existing...

How has the Coronavirus affected your roleplaying games?

All my regular gaming is online. A convention I was going to help out at (ironically because the original person backed out due to fears of coronavirus) was cancelled.

    [Green Ronin] Modern AGE?

You know, I got Dragon Age and Blue Rose 2nd... and was less than impressed with the mechanics. I've considered adapting Blue Rose to 5th ed... but the things you're describing... they might be just what I needed to fix Blue Rose's system.

    D&D and the rising pandemic

I'm in a hotspot. Well... the news says it's a hotspot, but mosly I see it as a fear spot. I, personally, am not affected. All my gaming is online. But my wife and son had to address this in their weekly Starfinder game this week. They decided they were not going to give in to the fear, but they...

What is the most statistically improbably die roll you've witnssed?

On Roll 20, playing Numenera... Player rolls a 1 on a d20. Spends an XP to reroll. Rolls a 1. Next turn.... Player rolls a 1 on a d20. Spends an XP to reroll. Rolls a 1. Next turn Player rolls a 2 on a d20. Spends an XP to reroll. Rolls a 1. 5 1s and a 2 in six consecutive rolls. now...

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D, Racial Paragons, and Super Soldiers

I like the idea. There's a lot to be said for the way 5e (and maybe 3 and 4, I wouldn't know/don't care) opens up options for everyone: Dwarf Wizard? Elf Barbarian? Half-Orc Bard? Halfling Not-A-Thief? Great! But... there's also something to be said for really embracing the dwarfiness, the...

OD&D Edition Experience: Did/Do You Play Basic D&D? How Was/Is it?

That cover is the cover on the one that got us started in 1979. I've mentioned before, my dad bought it for my best friend's birthday, and my friend figured we should at least try it. We played it for maybe a year before he got interested in the Advanced and we transitioned to that. And I loved it.

D&D General How do you explain PC absences when a player has to miss a session?

I generally try to find an excuse to have the PC separate. If there's no plausible way, Auto-Pilot, and if there's a significant choice to be made, I generally make it provisional, then ask the player later.

Which TTRPG did you play in 2019?

About half a dozen one-shots with a group... I can only remember Dungeon World and Dogs in the Vineyard... Aside from that it was: D&D 5th Numenera My own supers game A little Star Wars And... I can't remember for sure when my Blue Rose game stopped. Might have been the very end of 2018, not...

D&D General Playing Nicely In The Sandbox

This is what happened to me trying to run World of Darkness games. "So... uhh... guys.... we've been playing for years and your magi have really influenced the world. The technocracy has been compromised, the nephandi kept at bay, and if ever there was an age where the ascension of mankind was...

Which edition of Star Wars RPG are you currently interested in?

If I'm running a one-shot, WEG 1e. It's fast, it's simple, it's easy to get into. If I'm running something longer, WEG 2e R&E (or the fan project based on it). More complicated, support for longer term play, still compatible with all the WEG source material. OR, not listed, my own fan...

    Consequences of playing "EVIL" races

I agree with this in principle, but in play it's just no fun (for me, or the other players in my experience) to hammer it every scene. That's why I use my rule of not making a thing about it until it's time to make A Thing about it. I don't want to ignore it, but I don't want it to eat up a lot...

What Game Did You Leave D&D For?

Back in the early 90s, I left D&D for nothing in particular. I was just not happy with some stuff about it. I meandered about for a while, and ran some supers stuff, but mainly was just looking for the fun again. I landed on Everway, about 95ish. I was, at the time, writing reviews for a little...
