    Why keep adventuring?

Yes, and what other justification do we need?

    An Evil party... Troublesome?

Exactly. Bring to the table the same concepts Shadowrun and other Cyberpunk games use, and evil campaigns can work. They work differently than good campaigns, but they do work. Most of my best campaigns have been with evil, or borderline evil CN characters, while ones where everyone played boy...

    Good 3.x adventure

That would be my suggestion as well. You can find my review of Tomb of Abysthor at http://www.rpg.net/news+reviews/reviews/rev_7286.html.

    First Published Module

It is tricky, since those dungeons were unkeyed. However, the city itself was (and still is in its current edition) pretty dungeon-like. In any case, the second JG installment, Thunderhold, has to count as a module because the Sunstone Caverns are described - just not in room-to-room detail...

    Smaller or bigger dungeons?

Funny how the thread has become a repository for tired negative stereotypes about dungeons. Le sigh. :\

    Orcs: How Important Are They?

My take as well. They are fun opponents (especially orc archers with poisoned arrows - players love to hate those guys), but there is no overwhelming need to have them in a game.

    Ignorance on the web

Even if the article is clearly hostile to D&D, I think this quote, especially the bolded part, is cool as Hell. Let's admit it, Hell is pretty cool. Using occult spells is even cooler, and D&D is a perfect vehicle to do it. I know I thought demons and evil magic were the bee's knees when I was...

    Smaller or bigger dungeons?

The two types fulfill different functions; therefore, in an ideal campaign, I would mix the two (obviously, there would be more small dungeons - there is no need for more than one or probably two really big ones). Small dungeons can be "completed", and I think many players like that feeling...

    Parents Neglect - D&D named.....

Do average news-reading people care about D&D anymore? I don't think so. Articles like this are always a good opportunity for gamers to relive past injustices... but really, this is only relevant for us. Nobody* else will notice a similar article among many. Nobody will take any anti-gaming...

What do you think is the hardest AD&D or D&D video game fight?

How so? I always killed the bugger with no losses on my first or second try. Just do the Dungeon Master step-dance (sidestep, wait, hit, sidestep, wait, hit, sidestep, wait, hit) until it goes down.

What do you think is the hardest AD&D or D&D video game fight?

The optional fight with the dragons atop a tower in the same game gets my vote, but the MBC was also hard as hell. I never succeeded without at least three or four PCs killed.

Which of those adventures should I get?

Even more information: it is not a very good module, but it comes with instructions on reconstructing it with LEGOs (or something close to it)! :uhoh:

    The Sources of D&D

Wraiths and Spectres are both inspired by Tolkien's nazgul, and I think this is made clear in Chainmail, OD&D or both. Giant spiders, although they appear in earlier sources (e.g. Conan), also seem to be Tolkien-inspired. The evil alignment is a giveaway: in Tower of the Elephant, the giant...

    grodog's pics from LGGC #3

Cool pictures! What adventure was Rob running at the con? I can see a snapshot of the map behind his DM screen, but don't recognise it from his eBay auctions. Was it Lost City of the Elders?

What games do Wizards designers play?

As everyone should! :D (Tekumel would be my theoretical OD&D of choice: similar in rules and spirit, but much better organised!)

What games do Wizards designers play?

And it would be even cooler if he were running it with the original EPT rules! But still way too cool, and this quote demonstrates he also "gets it": As everyone should!

    The C&C poll

Interesting -- I never read the C&C monster book properly because I started with the 1e MM1 when Monsters&Treasures wasn't out yet and didn't stop. :D Seriously, good stuff. What I appreciate about C&C is the casualness, the "it is not perfectly balanced but we don't care"sentiment...

What are the characteristics of an "olde school game"?

This is incorrect. There are multiple interpretations of old school, just like there are multiple play styles today. But several game elements can be identified which were characteristic of these styles but were de-emphasized or changed in later periods (sometimes to resurface; 3e did some of...
