    New Treasure Cards

These are great, nice work! I've been using MSE to make treasure cards for years. Usually I just use a simple full-text template, although on occasion I'll use a full art/text template or a standard MTG template. I'll often put the rules on the card, or at least a brief version of them, so...

    D&D 5E (2014) Running a game from a tablet.

I've been using OneNote to organize my campaign, and once we got the format down, it's worked very well. I have a passworded DM tab and a Player tab. I use the DM tab to organize my notes, outlines, put in photos, art clips, maps, etc. My players use the Player tab to collectively take notes...

D&D 5E (2014) Curse of Strahd - How Long Start to Finish?

I'd say - don't worry about, and have fun! I'm a first time DM, the first campaign I've ever run is CoS, and my guys are having a blast. Granted I've done some research on ways to organize it, plot threads that weave together, etc. There's lots of great material here on the Enworld and other...

D&D 5E (2014) Curse of Strahd - How Long Start to Finish?

We play once a month, for about 5 hours. We're 8 session in, level 5, and about half-way through the plot in my estimation. One thing about the module is that it's quite sandboxey, so you can add or delete things to control the length. For instance, because we play monthly, and I don't want...

D&D 5E (2014) Recommend an adventure for a group of goblin misfits

Third vote for Pathfinder's "We Be Goblins". There's 4 of them, all linked together covering a couple of different levels. They're all free to download since they are "Free RPG Day" adventures, so they are fairly simple, a bit railroadey, but very easy to have a ton of fun with. You could...

D&D 5E (2014) DM HELP! My players killed Strahd too easily!

We haven't got to that point yet, but my theory is to have Strahd be super obnoxious throughout the castle, showing up, dishing some damage, then fade away through the wall. The players should be super jumpy after a few of these encounters. However, once they get to THE place from the card...

D&D 5E (2014) Enhancing "Curse of Strahd" (and DDAL adventures)

Quick question for those who keep track of these things - there used to be a thread here called (I think) "CoS Tome of Strahd Additional Excerpts". I had copied some stuff from there awhile back, but my link to the thread doesn't seem to work anymore. Forum search doesn't seem to find it...

    D&D 5E (2014) CoS - Strahd's background and motivation

Whoops, wrong thread, nothing to see here.

D&D 5E (2014) CoS - 2 questions on play that may be broken (spoilers)

Regarding question 1, see page 24 of CoS under "Alterations to Magic": "The land of Barovia resides in its own demiplane, isolated from all other planes, including the Material Plane. No spell - not even wish - allows one to escape from Strahd's domain. Astral Projection, teleport, plane shift...

D&D 5E (2014) Labyrinthine dungeon in the feywild

Level 2 characters are introduced to a Shambling Mound in Curse of Strahd. Some groups report defeating it easily, others end up as a TPK. The general idea in the module is that you're supposed to run away from it, back through the haunted house which grows teeth in the doorways that chomp...

D&D 5E (2014) Beefing up "Death House" (CoS)

There's several other threads around here somewhere about ways to run DH, which have a lot of great ideas in them. Might be worth doing a quick search, you'll get a lot of inspiration from them (I know I did!). Re: resting, per the module they can take a long rest right before going down to...

    D&D 5E (2014) Curse of Strahd Questions

Totally agree. We are playing it as a problem to overcome. They don't have full control of their transformation - at night I have the player make a WIS save per the DC in the MM. If the make it, they stay in control that night. If they fail, they transform until dawn. We've only had one...

    D&D 5E (2014) Curse of Strahd Questions

We've been playing CoS at out monthly game for about 9 months now. It's been a blast, I hope you have fun with it! 1) The general population of Barovia does not know he is a vampire. He perpetuates the idea that he's just one in a long line of Counts. I think the book says somewhere that...

D&D 5E (2014) Curse of Strahd: Barovia needs about 10x more people

While typically I would agree with that, in this setting, it might make a bit more difference. The socioeconomic basis is described as consisting of three towns - one is practically deserted, and the other two are walled and fortified. In fact, the area around Vallaki is described as so...

D&D 5E (2014) hypothetical - a giant capturing downed pc's while rest of party fights on? rule for this

Yep, agreed. No roll needed. If a character is downed and making death saves, then the giant just picks them up and walks off. Heck, even if they aren't downed - the giant can try to pick them up using the grapple rules, and if he succeeds, he pops them in the sack and now they're Restrained.

D&D 5E (2014) Curse of Strahd: Barovia needs about 10x more people

As for the wolves/bats/etc, there are other animals they can feed on. Mountain goats are specifically mentioned, as are fish, and I have no reason to believe other than that there are also deer and small game like you would typically find in a mountain valley.

D&D 5E (2014) Curse of Strahd: Barovia needs about 10x more people

Isn't there something in there about re-incarnation? As long as everyone is boarded up safe in their houses, maybe the death rate roughly exceeds the birth rate, and things stay more or less even...

D&D 5E (2014) Curse of Strahd - DM seeks campaign ideas from the community

Don't forget Strahd has a flying nightmare horse, which can be used to great effect in a night-time raid on Krezk. If you watch "Dice, Camera, Action", Chris Perkins threw in a huge fight with Strahd in Krezk. He had the werewolves infiltrate Krezk disguised as Winery delivery men, and they...

D&D 5E (2014) Curse of Strahd: Determining your Ally

Regarding your ally, what do people think of Von Richten as the ally? Considering his history in the franchise, and knowing all about everything, and having planned for years how to stop Strahd, what's to stop him from stealing the spotlight? I could foresee it kind of turning into "Hey, we're...

D&D 5E (2014) CoS Ideal Tarokka Reading Storywise

I was wrestling with this too. We'll likely end up at Madam Eva's tent next game, so I decided to do a "pre-read" just for fun. All three items ended up in the castle, with Pidlewick II as the ally. That sucked, so I did another one. Three items are at gallows crossroad, Tser Pool, and Amber...
