    About the War Cleric......

A character with a focus on elemental powers. I personally prefer cold or lightning. So I lean toward tempest clerics, storm or dragon sorcerers and elemental conjuring wizards. My love of fae adds feylocks and enchanters. So I hadn't actually played War.

    About the War Cleric......

In theory (I always will choose an elementalist), it is pretty good. At low levels you get the extra attack sooner than the main fighters even if it is limited. At higher levels it feels like an off-hand attack for a rogue, just insurance to get AN attack to connect to get the once per turn...

    About the War Cleric......

This is going to show some deep ignorance but on a deeper read I am missing what makes War worse at melee combat than other domains. Obviously it is not as good at it an actual melee fighter, but as far as gishes go it feels solidly middle of the pack (as far as single class goes). Full armor...

    [conversion woes] SO MANY ITEMS

To the mainish point. A lot of people go that route where even if by the rules you carry it, you might still be asked to explain where you put it all (and backpacks only have one item within easy reach usually). Those item lists are why carts, floating discs, bags of holdin, armies of...

    Non-urgent Adventures and Campaigns?

I think a decent way to combat that a little is to make dungeon/cave/mysterious ruins prime real estate. If a party long rests after every encounter, and a you can only take one long rest every 24 hours. It could take a week or more to clear something. In that time other monsters could move...

    About the War Cleric......

Doesn't its core feature expand to cover party members at level six? I guess I think of the channel divinity as the 'core' feature, with the bonus attack being just a little boost like dragon sorcerer armor. It is there, but you may not use it a ton.

    [conversion woes] SO MANY ITEMS

My paranoid wizard disagrees a little, but his paranoia armory is a bit of his quirk. Last I checked he has a short sword on each hip, a longbow and quiver on his back (on the side of the backpack), a bandolier across his chest with a wand, three daggers and a potion, a dagger sorta hidden in...

    About the War Cleric......

My quick and dirty read leads me to believe the war cleric changes roles as experience is gained. At low levels it works as a great frontline warrior. Nice defense, good weapons, the ability to basically guarantee a hit when you really need it, strong spell support. That is quite a package for...

Anyone else tired of the miserly begrudging Rogue design of 5E?

I think that is not limited to the rogue. Other than the fighter and ranger, who both have DEX or STR builds, there isn't a huge amount of flexibility to most classes, you more or less pick your lead stat when you pick your class. Your spell stat is basically essential, barbarians pretty much...

Anyone else tired of the miserly begrudging Rogue design of 5E?

If I read correctly there seems some wonkiness in the request. It sounded like the player didn't want to try to find an 'optimized' build and taking the recommend feat to increase damage was either too complicated or unpalatable for some reason. However they were feeling left out or impotent...

    D&D Beyond Krakens

I find it looks a lot like some of the later leviathans from Subnautica

Heroes by Action or Superheroes by Ability?

I prefer a low-to-mid power campaign. Magic exists but is notable by its presence. Basically a setting where there is room for heroes without the question of "Why don't all these incredibly personally powerful nobles, wizards, heroes, etc. that seem to be everywhere fix these problems...

In hindsight it is, but they are the best example of having a pool of extra dice to throw on damage rolls.

Anyone else tired of the miserly begrudging Rogue design of 5E?

I didn't refute it because that was my point. It is fundamentally unable to fully focus on combat because it is written specifically not to. The hosed part was because fire sorcerers tend to be the damage build. If you something can't be hurt by fiee most of their attacks are meaningless...

Anyone else tired of the miserly begrudging Rogue design of 5E?

It often comes down a lot to skills, background and luck. If all you have is athletics, acrobatics, perception and survival you are probably not adding a lot to any court or merchant scene. On the other hand I have never seen a wizard make a jump or climb out of a pit on their own. Shows the...

Anyone else tired of the miserly begrudging Rogue design of 5E?

I think the fundamental conflict on that is opportunity cost. For any of the casters to have a high-damage combat build they generally have to give up a lot of their other options, this hurts less for the big three classes that can rechoose spells each day but still exists. A bard who goes...

    D&D 5E (2014) Best Wizard and Cleric Subclasses (Level 1 to 10)

The choice breaks down to: Are you proactive? Scry, detect, portent. Divination will help solve mysteries and help either avoid conflict or be packing the right gear and spells for the threats you face. Are you reactive? Maximized thunder and lightning damage, heavy armor and healing will...

Greataxe, greatsword, and a little math

Off-topic I am still struggling with that decision on my bladesinger. I like two short swords (after I pick up warcaster) as he was a thief and a burglar, but I also like the snobbiness of a rapier (he has an elf and wizard superiority issue).

    Mike Mearls and "Action Economy"

It is irrational in hindsight but understandable when you account for the 'I know what I mean' blind spot you can get in development. As far as I can tell the bonus action was not intended as a slot but as a thing you got to do as a rider on some special actions. If you take X action under...

    Racial Spells and Caster Levels

Oh right, far too convoluted for my blood. I just grab the conditionals as a wizard and use my sorcerer (or bard) spells for stuff I will always want. But now I see the reasoning, especially if it is an unexpected multiclassing. I should look at questions after I sleep instead of before. At...
