    Viable crossbow builds

just curious but, does Monkey Grip only apply to melee weapons? Because I could potentionally see a build where you dual wield a heavy xbow in each hand... My friend once made a rogue that specialized in hand xbows. He was able to fire off 2, drop them, quick draw another one (that was...

    Improved monk attack

Question... Why would this only apply to Monks? Wouldn't ANYONE (that is, any RACE) technically have "natural weapons"? Fists, hands, knees, elbows, etc. are all "natural" weapons. The difference is, the Monk can attack with them w/o provoking an AoO. So really when you think about it, a...

How would you aducate this anti-dragon tactic?

CMIIW but... The Wall of Force needs to be "anchored" to the ground, right? You said the wall would be 30' high? Wouldn't the dragon be flying higher than 30' and use it's breath weapon? I am of the opinion to play dragons smart, and they should not enter melee unless they have to. Use the...

    Warlock question!

I could have sworn that if you roll a nat 1, you have to roll a dex check (DC 10) to see if you drop your weapon. I am sure I read that in the DMG. And last I checked, the DMG is CORE, so it isn't like this is some unofficial house rule my group came up with. So yes, using the CORE rules, a...

    Warlock question!

Oh, I see... I guess you have a point there. I'd say it might be allowable if the feat in question makes sense (ie works as well with Invocations as it does spells). You can't (for example) use Energy Substitution with Eldritch Blast... Hmmm, then again I suppose you could if you used an...

    Warlock..just read it..now Im confused...HELP!

He can also swap out invocations of the same level or lower any time he gets a new "upgrade" on invocations (lesser, greater, dark). So at level 6, he could swap out one of his least invocations for a different one.

    Swapping Warlock Invocations...

As much as I'd hate to admit it, I think this is correct. If it follows the same pattern as the Sorcerer and Bard (which can only swap out spells anytime they get a new spell level) then this makes sense.

    Warlock question!

You should really familiarize yourself with the rules before making incorrect statements such as this. No, because they are not "Sudden" metamagic feats, which that paragraph explicitly covers.

    Warlock question!

Guess your are lucky then, or your DM was being leinient. Just because it hasn't happened in your case doesn't mean it doesn't happen. My group loses weapons all the time in combat, mainly do to fumbling them on a roll of a nat 1. But sometimes they get disarmed as well. I just started...

    Swapping Warlock Invocations...

The text is kind of unclear about this. Does a Warlock get to swap out invocations at any time they get a new invocation, or when they get a new upgrade of invocations (once when they learn lesser, then greater, then dark)? The wording is faulty and can be taken either way.

    Practiced Spellcaster

I always felt that the Paladin and Ranger should get access to their spells at level 1 personally. Just shorten their spell list, and spread their spells out more. Makes for more options, and more options = more fun. Does the Bard get their spells at 1st level (too lazy to look it up)? If...

Mind Blank/Nondetection vs. see invisibility/True Seeing

So True Seeing and See Invisibility doesn't allow one to "gather information"? Information such as, where the opponent is, what he looks like, etc. ?

    Warlock question!

I never said they lose them all the time. They do lose them on occassion, more often than a Warlock would. A Warlock would most certainly be in trouble if he was grappled, but the fighter is up front in melee and the Warlock is not (or should not be). So there should be less of a chance the...

    New FAQ contradicts itself?

Maybe I just have low reading comprehension skills or something, but the way I read it... I understand it as saying that when you shapechange, you keep your normal HD (in terms of hit points) but for abilities of the creature you turn into, you apply the creature's HD.

My @!@#! Player abusing Feather Fall

Slightly off topic, but I am just curious... Those who feel this tactic is metagaming... In a campaign I play in, I often purposely provoke AoOs (I have mobility so it is unlikely I will get hit) so that the large minotaur in our group can make grapple attempts w/o being provoked himself and...

    Warlock question!

Take that sword away (disarm, sunder, grapple) and the fighter is in trouble. Where as, the Warlock doesn't need to rely on a weapon to do his damage. Fighter also needs to stand in melee, thus taking damage. The Warlock can stand in the back (like all good casters do) and fire off Eldritch...

Mount withdraws - Rider not - AoO?

Try this... You can drop down to one side of the mount and get yourself cover (with a successful ride check). An opponent can't make an AoO against you if he has cover relative to you. Would that work?
