    D&D 5E (2014) Why does 5E SUCK?

But there is guidelines. A lot of them, and the extremely loose guidelines outside combat was always one of the main critics of 4th edition, and one of the things that the fanbase has always defended. It would be very naive to call purely DM fiat the DCs of certain tasks in 5th edition. The DC...

    D&D 5E (2014) Why does 5E SUCK?

I want to believe that you actually acknowledge that a 18 strenght peasant is rather unique, and shines in his own, special way. Base soldiers actually have 14 St, and even Orcs and trained veteran knights are actually weaker than him (16 St). Hell, a variant human fighter is weaker than him...

    D&D 5E (2014) Why does 5E SUCK?

And you keep ignoring that mister Hobo McTen really can't overtake anything hard because their skill set does not avail it, as Imaro stated. He only has a 5% chance to make something hard, and none to accomplish something in between hard and Very Hard, and that advantage/disadvantage only keeps...

    D&D 5E (2014) Why does 5E SUCK?

This is simply not true. Rounds and turns are a measure of time, and they are accounted in whenever time is a crucial factor. And RAW, cunning action is combat . And at this time, we are arguing for the sake of arguing, and I'm tiring of it. Cunning action is clearly stated as a combat...

    D&D 5E (2014) Why does 5E SUCK?

Tony, as I said earlier, Cunning Action is a combat-action feature only. Action Surge don't, hence his utility outside combat. Indomitable too, as you can make several Saving Throws non related to combat but to exhaustion, obstacles in your way, or whatever. Situations where cast a spell is...

    D&D 5E (2014) Why does 5E SUCK?

Absolutelly true. The maximum that a Mister Average can do is a Hard task without any magical help or special training, and only 5% of the time. A slightly difficultier task (21) is above him.

    D&D 5E (2014) Why does 5E SUCK?

I clearly fail to see a difference between the two editions in the aspect you brought to the table, carzy arabian, besides the narrower liberty of the 4th edition DM to accomplish certain tasks. In the 5 Edition DMG (and in PHB if my mind isn't slippering) there are listed several examples of...

    D&D 5E (2014) Why does 5E SUCK?

You are forgetting that Strenght also handles the amount of weight you are capable to lift. It is a convention, true, but it is a non-check restrainer. And, from 4th edition PHB, p. 222: "Multiply your Strength score by 10. That’s the weight, in pounds, that you can carry around without...

    D&D 5E (2014) Why does 5E SUCK?

First of all, thank you for carefully reading the propositions I made. For Action Surge, the non-combat applications are some of the "uniqueness" of the class: the fighter is stronger, faster than everyone else. Chases are one example of timeframed situations where AS can be used, but rescue...

    D&D 5E (2014) Why does 5E SUCK?

I forgot them, but: Supreme Sneak: Hide is one of the main features of the rogue, and with Expertise already there it is hardly ground breaker, only a minor boost. But at this time, the champion has both Remarkable Athlete and one more feat/ASI. And this ability also has a limited usage (Hide...

    D&D 5E (2014) Why does 5E SUCK?

Where I was saying that 4th edition was obliterating the prior editions, I was saying that there was an effort on saying that the edition is "superior" to every other edition prior, in every aspect possible. "New", "Better maths" and such. Also, I was saying that, where 3rd edition take the time...

    D&D 5E (2014) Why does 5E SUCK?

Almost. The classes shine in one or more aspects of the game, and Fighters shine in combat, mostly. But they are far from worthless everywhere else (and they shine wherever the Strenght/Athletics come to play, if they are such characters). I can be ok if they are very capable in fighting but...

    D&D 5E (2014) Why does 5E SUCK?

I understand what you are saying, Pemerton. But they actually are reliable. As I've pointed out, RA covers a whole specter of possible Skill Checks. Yes, the fighter isn't the very best at any given area (with the possible exeption of Athletics covered area, and in situations where an Action...

    D&D 5E (2014) Why does 5E SUCK?

Of course having proficiency/ expertise is better than not having them. That's the whole point of having Proficiency or Expertise, Tony. But the Fighter can do everything very well, without having to waste resources with it. The Feats/ Ability Score Increase of the fighter are his uniqueness...

    D&D 5E (2014) Why does 5E SUCK?

Remarkable Athlete could do the trick pretty well. Also, the high Constitution given by superior Ability Increase capacity and/or Athlete feat can make it. Given by the Pirate background, as Bad Reputation. Also, it can be achieved by Intimidation (that can be ruled as a Strenght check also)...

    D&D 5E (2014) Critical Failures & House Rules

Yes, of course this will affect them... about a 5% of the time. But you forgot that chance is not cumulative, and every roll of die have the same probability of a 1 or a 20. In a game, maybe almost every attack is a critical, but also you can be in several sessions without one.

    D&D 5E (2014) Critical Failures & House Rules

I don't see Adv/Dis as a horrible mechanic, but a intuitive, simpler one. And off course the rules are not written in stone. They are only applied when they have sense. I see a critical failure as an "opening", a mistake not that horrible that you deal yourself damage, but provide an opportunity...

    D&D 5E (2014) Critical Failures & House Rules

You have to remember that the Sneak Attack can be used every single round, poviding that you have some advantage, and it is not really believable that you attack with such ability to, for example, a ghost or a purple worm (which you probably never faced before), only because you have some tanky...

    D&D 5E (2014) Critical Failures & House Rules

Hello, people, long time non reading you. Quick question: how much have you houseruled 5ed yet? I know that the core material is awesome enough to play a full campaign, but this campaign will be better adjusted to a game in the Forgotten Realms world. Maybe you have been playin in Dark Suns, and...
