Oh, OK. I could probably handle that - I'll add them to my list. Thanks for the clarification.

Looking For New Author To Read

Well, maybe the reviews on amazon were misleading. I'm most likely to give Drawing of the Dark a try first, though.

Looking For New Author To Read

Jdvn1: I've probably not read Dumas because of the time period, I must admit. That's not to say I won't give them or Brust's homage a go at some time, but probably just not what I'm looking for at the moment. Blue: Glen Cook is on my read list (if you check the OP :p ) - enjoyed without being...

Looking For New Author To Read

Well, I'm ashamed to say I've never read Dumas. I've of course seen the films, which I enjoyed (mostly), but I'm sure the book(s?) is a different kettle of fish. However, from what you say, I think the Taltos books may be a better intro to Brust for me - I feel in need of something punchy and...

Looking For New Author To Read

Oh, I had noticed that film rights had been sold for the Pressville book, so presumed this must be it. Very interesting!

Is this the book that will be the basis of the film 'Three Hundred'? Looks good, though David Gemmell already did an excellent total fantasy version of the same thing.

Looking For New Author To Read

I'm now in two minds - I love great use of language, but I hate a slow plot. If I really wanted to get hooked on Brust, would I not be better starting with the Taltos books?

Looking For New Author To Read

Thanks for all the suggestions so far - I'm making a list of all the ones that sound appealing to keep me going for the next good while. My top three to try I think are Stephen Brust, Lois McMaster Bujold and Jennifer Fallon. But I'm definitely going to pick up The Lies of Locke Lamora too -...

Looking For New Author To Read

Pratchett is weird at times, but not REALLY weird ;) I once read a fantasy short story that involved all the modern items in a kitchen developing a personality and talking to each other - now that was REALLY weird. :uhoh: Re: Great Expectations: When I had to study it in my last year at...

Looking For New Author To Read

I snipped the above quote to highlight the books that sound good to me (I did say I was picky! :p ) I've heard several good things about the Taltos series - this may well be one of the next to pick up - thanks. I keep on meaning to pick up a Mercedes Lackey and may have done so at some point...

Looking For New Author To Read

Mmmmm....I picked up Book 1 recently and read 100 pages or so and found it to be not at all to my tastes. I found the writing to be too simplistic and found it hard to care for the character. Thanks for the suggestion anyway.

Looking For New Author To Read

She is one of the authors I have been thinking about picking up, having seen a couple of good reviews on amazon. Thanks for the confirmation, I think she will be next on my list. Someone else I heard good things about was Lois McMaster Bujold - anyone have any experience of her books?

Looking For New Author To Read

Thanks for the suggestions - I didn't mention Weis & Hickman as I thought my caveat about RPG spin-offs would rule them out - I have read a selection of their stuff and enjoyed them as light entertainment. I've read a couple of Stephen King's fantasy books (vaguely remember one co-written with...

Checked some reviews of this - looks interesting, thanks.

Looking For New Author To Read

Thanks for the suggestion - I didn't mention Pratchett because I thought that my 'no humour' caveat would catch him. I have read almost all of his books and enjoy them occasionally as light entertainment.

I'll take a look. Is the main protagonist a dragon in this? What's the characterisation like?

Looking For New Author To Read

I seem to have run out of books by authors I enjoy and was hoping someone might recommend me an author I've not come across before. I'm pretty picky about genre and style, so some background to my likes and dislikes are below, for anyone who wants to suggest: First off, I'm talking fantasy only...

    True20 Fantasy Paths

Hi Phil I did a little investigation into pdf prices and I stand corrected, it's below average on price per page. I have deleted my comment in my original post. My sincere apologies - I can see a lot of hard graft went into the product and it's a great time saver for those of us who want to...

    True20 Fantasy Paths

First off, I'd be asking myself why buy a product like this for Blue Rose (presuming you will not buy True20 because you're happy playing Blue Rose)? This product, to my mind, comes into its own if you want to convert a D&D campaign to True20, while keeping the feel of D&D. If you want to give...

    True20 Fantasy Paths

I picked it up last night and have had a brief glance through it. My initial thoughts are that a lot of work has been put in on stat blocks (though I haven't checked them for errors). I have some concerns over its usefulness in running a True20 fantasy campaign designed to replicate a standard...
