D&D 5E (2014) Potent Cantrip is still dumb, btw

Are there any wizard cantrips in the PHB that are evocation and require a saving throw? Surely they aren't balancing an entire ability on the category of a spell? A wizard could just take the Magic Initiate feat and take Sacred Flame to use both Empowered Evocation and Potent Cantrip.

D&D 5E (2014) Any further clarification to Hiding in Player's Handbook?

I think if anything is missing that has to do with stealth, it is equipment that helps with it. A cloak and other types of camouflage that breaks up your pattern should definitely have some benefit when hiding such as helping you to hide in lightly obscured areas.

Except 'hidden status' includes both unseen and unheard. Stealth includes both visual and audible aspects to it. I would say disadvantage to stealth checks if you are trying to hide in unfavorable conditions such as being lightly obscured.

D&D 5E (2014) Monster Manual soon to be in the wild!

I think something like this was predicted by someone on this forum at one point.

D&D 5E (2014) Any further clarification to Hiding in Player's Handbook?

I decided I want to address this specifically. The only people arguing about such a rule are those that don't know the definition of can.

D&D 5E (2014) Any further clarification to Hiding in Player's Handbook?

You state this as fact when in reality it is just your opinion. All mentions are abstract in nature with basic rules on how to utilize the stealth skill. To me it just looks like you are looking for granularity where it doesn't exist.

D&D 5E (2014) Any further clarification to Hiding in Player's Handbook?

Because some people aren't used to more abstract rules and insist for granularity that isn't hard coded into the system.

I don't consider them bad rules at all. So simply because it is your opinion that they are bad rules, doesn't make it so.

D&D 5E (2014) Any further clarification to Hiding in Player's Handbook?

It's not a cop out at all, it's a design decision the designers made. It is quite clear what a DM is and does when it is described in the Introduction section.

They don't need to say that. It's automatically assumed for all rules that it is the DM's judgement call.

    D&D 5E (2014) 5th Edition and The Rules

Going from 2e to 3e really was such a backward movement in terms of rules over narrative. I think I spent as much time dealing with the rules such as looking at DC charts and dismissing rules lawyering as I did actually creating a story. It felt many times as if I was playing the system and not...

D&D 5E (2014) Any further clarification to Hiding in Player's Handbook?

There is no mess. The rules are broad and less defined because 5e is designed to allow the most flexibility to the DM and relies on his judgement calls. There is absolutely no way a single ruleset can cover every possible scenario and when it tries, you get a metagame where players try to get...

    D&D 5E (2014) Ranger

Yeah, that was a bit confusing. It wouldn't work for the giant badger. Not sure the giant badger is always the best choice. With the advantage the wolf will get with its attacks and the ability to knock its target prone, I think the wolf is equally a match. If a ranger actually dedicated the...

    D&D 5E (2014) Ranger

Why would a ranger choose a badger? It's tiny so it has less hit points, it gets one attack that does 1 damage and can only move 20'.

    D&D 5E (2014) Ranger

From what was said, Barkskin doesn't add in Dexterity, only makes the minimum AC you can have be 16. Mage Armor is 13 + Dexterity and with the Magic Initiate feat, it doesn't cost a spell slot.

    D&D 5E (2014) Ranger

So you lose 1 AC with animals with a 15 Dexterity which is a number of them and you don't have to worry about losing it in melee or not having it available to cast.

Ah, you're right. Wonder why I always associated it as such. I guess the option would be taking the Magic Initiate feat.
