    D&D 4E A 4E Combat Encounter - Round by Round Descritpion

Wow. Well I'm glad it was well recieved. I was just trying to show some old players of mine how 4E would play out. Seeing the rules, the characters, the abilities is one thing. But seeing them in action is another.

    Two Example Skill Challenges

So in an attempt to show some players how a skill challenge might work, I cooked up a couple of examples of how one might play out. I figured I'd throw them up here, maybe give people some ideas. The door slams shut behind you and the walls begin moving slowly together. Roll Initiative: Dave...

    D&D 4E The 4e Pit Fiend Revisited

I think this guy is cute: Pit Fiend Lich Level 26 Solo Controller (Leader) Large immortal humanoid undead (devil) XP 45,000 Initiative +22 Senses Perception +23; darkvision Aura of Fear (Fear) aura 5; enemies in the aura take a –2 penalty on attack rolls. Aura of Fire (Fire) aura 5...

    Nimble Strike

I agree with Neb. It's not an interrupt. Therefore it takes place after the attack, so the ranger can't avoid the blow, just make it hurt to hit him.

    D&D 4E A 4E Combat Encounter - Round by Round Descritpion

Yah, I wanted to put more fluff and flair into it but in the end just typing out all the mechanics became very time consuming, and that was what I was really looking to demonstrate.

D&D 4E 4E Vampiric Pit Fiend Lord (using new templates)

I stated up the Lich Pit Fiend in the original thread. I think it becomes a solo creature, because it started as elite. I think the xp is 45,000. Otherwise looks good. :)

    D&D 4E A 4E Combat Encounter - Round by Round Descritpion

Okay so here's the setup for the next encounter I'm going to do a write up for. I'll post the complete first encounter later. Another Combat Encounter – 4E style CAST Kathra Ironforge – Female Dwarf Fighter Skamos Redmoon – Male Tiefling Wizard Erias the Sunlord – Male Human Cleric...

    DMG Excerpt: Customizing Monsters

That's a good question. I don't have another high level solo to compare it too though. :( Interesting side note, it took me less than 2 minutes to convert it. Cut paste Pit fiend, fix defenses, add abilities and voila done. Nasty 26 solo that will eat your parties. :)

    DMG Excerpt: Customizing Monsters

Enjoy the new Lich Pit Fiend. :) Pit Fiend Lich Level 26 Solo Controller (Leader) Large immortal undead humanoid (devil) XP 45,000 Initiative +22 Senses Perception +23; darkvision Aura of Fear (Fear) aura 5; enemies in the aura take a –2 penalty on attack rolls. Aura of Fire (Fire) aura 5...

    D&D 4E A 4E Combat Encounter - Round by Round Descritpion

I like to think of it as more of a discussion, than an argument. With limited rules to look at, short of an actual designer coming in and saying, yah it should be this way. We won't know till June.

    D&D 4E A 4E Combat Encounter - Round by Round Descritpion

No only one mark per enemy tells you how many marks a target can have on them. The new mark superceding the old mark tells you that the new mark takes the place of the old mark. Without that rule you don't know which mark wins. Anyway, thats the way that I read and understand the way the...

    D&D 4E A 4E Combat Encounter - Round by Round Descritpion

I don't call that derailing the game, I call that the DM tossing the ball in the players court and they run with it. Those are the kind of games I love playing in. IF the players want to destroy all the kobolds in the world who am I to stop them. Of course these could just be a small tribe of...

    D&D 4E A 4E Combat Encounter - Round by Round Descritpion

I believe the new mark superceding an old mark is also written in the paladin's entry and is talking about if someone else marks the opponent the new mark takes it's place. Again I could be wrong but I think most of the evidence points to the fighter being able to mark multiple foes.

    D&D 4E A 4E Combat Encounter - Round by Round Descritpion

You are correct. It has been fixed. Thanks, yah I'm just some smuck. I wish I was a playtester or a developer. :)

    D&D 4E A 4E Combat Encounter - Round by Round Descritpion

Are you sure about that? The divine challenge mark is clear that the old mark is lost if you mark someone else. In the case of the fighters mark it's not a power just an ability to mark when he attacks. By a strict reading of the rule he could do it when he takes immediate attacks and...

    D&D 4E A 4E Combat Encounter - Round by Round Descritpion

As far as we know the fighter is not limited to just one mark. So, as it stands the fighter is better at marking multiple enemies and the paladin is better at marking just one. I think you're thinking that a target can only have one mark.

    D&D 4E A 4E Combat Encounter - Round by Round Descritpion

Wow, thank you all for all your kind words. I didn't think that it would be all that exciting. Now all I need is for some WotC guy to show up and tell me what I ran incorrectly. :) So do you guys want another example then?

    D&D 4E A 4E Combat Encounter - Round by Round Descritpion

I was just going on what we know at this point. As far as I know the warlock can curse multiple opponents. Technically he could curse an opponent, with a minor action. Use his move action to move, and spend his standard to curse another. I highly doubt we'll see many warlocks wasting a standard...

    D&D 4E A 4E Combat Encounter - Round by Round Descritpion

Thanks, I was trying to give my old gaming group a feel of how the game would run. We'll probably try to reconnect using DDI once it launches as we all live in different parts of the country now. See, they saw some of the preview stuff and I tried to fill in the gaps for them. But I think...

    I Humbly Ask Your Advice...

Olgar, I loved raiders, but I'm going to have to disagree with this statement. Nothing is better than the sweetness of a Ham and Pineapple pizza. You american's are just too unrefined. :)
