D&D General Eldritch Smite vs Paladin Smite (plus a house rule already)

Eldritch Smite did not get the same treatment as Paladin Smite. So Divine Smite gets turned into a bonus action spell but Eldritch Smite stays no action? I'm going to be using a house rule for smite already: I slipped in some changes, mostly on duration but also to searing smite's damage...

D&D 5E (2024) Greatweapon fighting style? Is this another joke? Did everyone at WotC failed elementary school math classes?

Technically this may be balanced against TWFing from levels 1 through 4. (1d6+Dex)x2 is the same as 2d6+(Strx2). But it would snowball with extra attack.

D&D 5E (2024) Greatweapon fighting style? Is this another joke? Did everyone at WotC failed elementary school math classes?

You know... Aggressive Style: damage boost Defensive Style: ac boost Protection Style: protect allies Accuracy Style: accuracy boost Trick Style: Weapon Mastery save DC boost Ultimately, my preference would have been for the Great Weapon style to have Str damage on a miss, but they made that a...

Project Sigil All the Deets on Project Sigil the D&D 3D Virtual Tabletop

I think this could work well if there's a few things they hit: Free to play version with stock player character minis One time Paid player version with a robust and good looking character builder Player subscription to get access to an ever growing character customization library of features...

D&D 5E (2024) Greatweapon fighting style? Is this another joke? Did everyone at WotC failed elementary school math classes?

Since the GWM is about damage reliability and not a straight damage boost, I'm considering having it be "damage advantage" with two-handed weapons. Savage Attacker also still sucks and needs a change.

    D&D 5E (2024) Conjure Minor Elementals

Or these types of on hit spells should be once per round, then they're better balanced against multiple attacks and spell level. Was I the only one that liked the playtest hex and Hunter's Mark?

    D&D 5E (2024) Background feats and flexibility

Skilled and Tough should be options for all backgrounds. Or all backgrounds should have 2 options. We'll probably be very flexible with backgrounds in my games.

    D&D 5E (2024) Conjure Minor Elementals

I fully believe the up casting was typoed and transplanted from another spell. Probably a simple find/replace error.

    D&D 5E (2014) New class niche?

I legitimately think the Wielder is the best concept for an arcane fish, and not just because I helped conceptualize it. DriveThruRPG The Wielder is the class for the likes of King Arthur, He-Man/She-Ra, and other heroes who gain their power from a magic weapon or armor. It's akin to the...

    D&D General Adjusting Constitution

But I don't want Con mod to apply to HP. It makes it feel too important, even if it's mathematically balanced against other choices. I also don't like that it's everyone's 2nd or 3rd highest stat; at that point just set it to 14 and reduce the point buy by 6. I also want to boost survivability...

    D&D General Adjusting Constitution

I'm never afraid to admit that I'm a 4venger. It was my favorite edition to play and run. I like 5E more from a designer perspective; I make a lot more of my own house rules and material for 5E.

    D&D General Adjusting Constitution

With Max HD, it might be possible to bring back d4 HD if wizards need a little nerf.

D&D General the elemental planes are trash

I feel it in the earth. I smell it in the air. Much that once was 4th Edition is lost, for none now live who remember it. Alchemically, Water+Earth = ice could work. Water is cold and wet, Earth is cold and dry. But where does that take us? Earth and Fire are both Dry, but they can be hot and...

    D&D General Adjusting Constitution

Now that's the nuclear option! I did once consider moving HP to strength (archetypically, strong characters are big and have more meat and are tougher) and having con only apply to HD healing.

    D&D General Adjusting Constitution

I would only ever go back to rolled HP if I was running a very simulationist game and it had you roll your HP after every long rest to see how you're feeling today.

    D&D General Adjusting Constitution

In my 24 years of D&D, I've rarely seen characters built with anything but a 14 Constitution. In 3E and 5E, I've seen a few 16s on Barbarians and Fighters, and I've seen two 12s on ranged characters, but never 8, 10, or 18. Back in 4E, though, there was a lot more variety, since Constitution...

D&D 5E (2024) Its Ironic That Fire Goliaths Make Better Celestial Warlocks Then Aasimar Do

Anytime a character gets an ability they already have from another source, I give them something else from the same category. I'd give the celestial warlock Aasimar another cleric cantrip and a different resistance (lightning is a common immunity for celestials, but I'd be open to others). Then...

D&D 5E (2024) Weird invisibility loophole saves Hiding but ruins the spell: Lose the Condition's benefits without losing the Condition

The fact that there have been 3 (?) threads on this that have gone so long says otherwise. I severely dislike the "hide first to set the DC" nature of it. A Hidden condition could easily say "you become noticed at the end of your turn if you no longer have sufficient cover or concealment" to...

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D 2024 Rules Oddities (Kibbles’ Collected Complaints)

Wait? Eldritch Smite doesn't take a bonus action? Okay, I'm changing the Smite Spells.
