I definitely second that, particularly the "don't give up on gaming" bit. Most DM's I know who've been through burnout that keep gaming eventually pick up the screen again. Those who quit gaming are the ones who say "4e? I didn't even know there was a 2e".

3e definitely has its flaws, but I would not go so far as to say it is fundamentally flawed. The biggest problem IMHO was the CR system and how it was based on party balance, the right amount of gear, and four encounters between resting.

I'm fascinated by wizards, but not being a big fan of the current magic system, I usually wind up playing fighters or barbarians. The new resource management system seems to make wizards less of a pain in the rump, so I'll think I'll go with them.
