A mystery race ?

I think everyone is overlooking the obvious candidate:

Reaper Steve, I would like to hear what you suggest for the big strong THOG SMASH style race.

Goliaths would be my top choice.
Half-giants (as a race, not a byproduct.)
I think I could even accept minotaurs before orcs.

Part of the problem with a big, tough race is that it's role is kind of filled by dwarves, the short, tough race.

And I also agree with others that I'd be happy to not see halflings and half-elves again.

Not me, for one thing. And I think that some market research has determined that not too many bothered with or want light sensitivity for orcs.

My orcs always attack at night. During the day, they either hole up underground or hire ogres as guards.

I love my goliaths, and would dearly like to have them as a playable race in 4e core. I'd put them down as more of the Big Strong race, and the dwarf as the Short Tough race.

Minotaurs would be a good second, and half-giants with another name would be a third.

IMHO, the dude on the cover of the PHB could be interpreted as more draconic than fiendish, so if there is an eighth race, I'm going with some sort of dragonman.

If this mysterious race turns out to be drow, in the PHB I we could see:

-Eladrin
-Elf
-Drow
-Half-Elf

All Medium Humanoid (Fey).

…The elf haters are going to have a field day if this is the case.

Honestly? I don't think that is a consideration for WotC.

There are almost certainly more people who like Drow than there are elf-haters.
