    D&D 4E The problem with 4e

Such optimism ! We all know that the first error was leaving the oceans ...

    Hazards of Dark Sun

First official crunch (and fluff) on Dark Sun in 4th edition : http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/drcamp/20080630

    Off-hand weapons. Meaningless?

Juste take a normal staff, reduce the damage dice by one step, give it the "small" properties, call it "small staff" and allow it to work as a wizard implement.

Careful Attack/Sure Strike: A mathematical analysis

I was writing that about my houserule : limiting Twin strike to only one attack per target. What I was meaning is that if you cannot attack the same target twice with TS, then careful strike gets its own niche back : increased chances to hit one target at the cost of less damage. I agree that...

Careful Attack/Sure Strike: A mathematical analysis

Try again to compare, this time by limiting Twin strike to one attack per target. Carful strike is useful again when you just want to kill one minion, or to make sure that your killing blow hits on the very damaged solo monster.

Twin Strike and Careful Strike Question.

I think that the problem is not with Careful Strike but with twin strike that is strictly better. A possible fix might be to force twin strike to have two targets : if you cannot attack the same opponent with both attacks using TS, than Careful Strike might be better when you're just trying to...

    Help with human/warlock

Yes, you are allowed to take warlock powers from other pacts (it's just that usually you're usually better taking your pact powers)

    Rogue Weapon Talent Use/Abuse?

Is it an immediate interrupt or reaction ? :P

You primary stat should never be lower than 18

As a paladin you already have plate armor on level 1 for free, you don't need the 15 con

    The Star Pact Handicap

Hobgoblins also get +2 CON and +2 CHA, and get an useful racial power (hobgoblin resilience, allow an immediate save as an interrupt)

    Spell Focus

Expect for the part where it is a paragon feat, and is not available until 11th level

    My First Take

As level 3 powers are encounter ones and not daily, I can assure you that this won't happen. Did you misread the Fighter 3 power in KotS ?

I also have the books [merged] (info on upcomming Power sources and more)

Attack bonuses are fairly rare in 4th edition (weapon focus give a bonus to damage, not to hit, to a whole weapon type), and to some fighter builds, this +1 added to the combat superiotty bonus can make for some hard-to-doge AOs.

    Some rule clarification please?

-2 to cast all your offensive spells (remember : spells are attacks too), and -2 to your reflex defense is a high penalty. You don't have anymore so many AC attack and Save buffs that a few points can be ignored.

Clerics need a wis of 20.

Note that you don't need a high wisdom to learn high level spells prayers anymore. More over, as secondaries abilities scores can have a big influence on some powers, it might sometimes be worst having a secondary higher than the primary ability. For exemple, the tiefling warlord has 18 int...

    Excerpt: Swarms

Maybe auras of the same type do not stack ? Then having several swarms near you would only give them one attack at the start of your turn ?

    Fighter KOTS pregen missing ability?

Read again : the KotS loste the ability to prevent movement with an AO, but instead is able to make an immediate attack when an adjacent marked enemy is attacking someone else. There is probably a fighter class feature when you chose between the 2 abilities

    Favoured Class

From what is currently known, there is no longer any favoured class rule, just flavor. A dwarf will still favor the fighter (or cleric) class thanks to his CON (and WIS for clerics) bonuses, but he will not be penalized anymore for chosing another class.

You Never Pit 9th Lvl Minions Against 1st Lvl PCs.

Saying that they don't have 1 hit point is indeed false : they do. But what you must understand is that hit points are *not* the ability to survive damage, big or small, but the narrative ability to make a killing blow into something not deadly, like a near miss, a scratch, ... Hit points have...

    WotC GregB: Alchemy

Might have changed since, but from what I understand, there is supposed to be no hard limit to the number of rituals that a character can learn. Some rituals are one-shot (scrolls are no longer a normal spell charge, but allow to cast one ritual once), while books can allow you to learn fully...
