D&D 5E (2014) Do you feel like the "Sorcerer" is really lacking in options?

Yes, they do need more options, BUT, as an interesting side note, they are excellent as villains. Really. Try using one. "Evil wizards" are traditional villains and imho Sorcerers are very, very good in the role, better than frail Wizards. Draconic ancenstry. Chaotic magic. More importantly...

[UPDATED AGAIN!] PRINCES OF THE APOCALYPSE - First Review!

In the meanwhile, Fildrigar deleted his own review...du-du-du-dun! The mistery gets deeper...anyway, I liked the review! It served the purpose to tell me this is nearer to LMoP than anything else, and I loved LMoP! PS The precise numbers of STARS imho is something only important to Nemesis in...

D&D 5E (2014) How do you decide which Races to disallow (and/or Classes)?

What I currently do is presenting my players a choice of two or three different campaigns, complete with whatever optional rules and/or limitations come with them. Then, we usually find one we all like and we roll with it. The limitations or additions to standard races & classes need to make...

D&D 5E (2014) Power Gamers Guide to Elemental Evil Players Companion

True, but it's a nice bonus, especially for a level 1: after all it only took a reaction to cast it so it's something on top of what you already got. Sure, it's also quite possible that whatever damaged you is not vulnerable to that same damage source, and you still need to be in the condition...

D&D 5E (2014) Power Gamers Guide to Elemental Evil Players Companion

The defensive spells (well, some of them) seem pretty interesting as well. I particularly like Primordial Ward, potentially a life saver, and Absorb Elements which is a very good shield-like, last minute defense. Sure to enter Abjurers' spellbooks and Rangers' repertoiure, imho.

    D&D Adventurer's League Elemental Evil Player's Guide

The disclaimer never let us down: Disclaimer: For safe utilization of elemental magic, remember the following guidelines. You can drink water but not fire. You can breathe air but not earth. You can walk on earth but not on water (unless you have the right pair of boots or spell). You can do a...

    D&D 5E (2014) So, reading the DMG... 5e is E20

If I remember correctly, there are also other non mechanical options with very good story implications, like immortality (in the sense of being fit and never aging).

D&D 5E (2014) DMG help with converting Pathfinder adventures to 5e?

I do agree with Emirikol fully. I've actually been doing this since August with different Pathfinder adventures and it works wonders...mostly. Players don't expect the same degree of "fairness" in 5E than 4E, they don't question each save target number or trap effects. It may depend on your own...

    D&D 5th Edition Dungeon Master's Guide

4 out of 5 rating for D&D 5th Edition Dungeon Master's Guide Yes, I got it, I'm a lucky man. And here what I think: the 5th edition DMG is a masterpiece and keeps up the very good quality of the Player’s Handbook and Monster Manual. It goes on with the new edition philosophy of going back to...

    Carrion Crown Adventure Path

4 out of 5 rating for Carrion Crown Adventure Path Carrion Crown is a good tale: lots of well thought scenarios and situations. Not so much linked as a whole AP and some minor plot flaws here and there but overall excellent, perhaps a little too many combats for an horror adventure but well...

    D&D 5E (2014) Lost Mines of P: election day!

On the other hand, why would them? My PCs became fond of the town but they knew they would not be able to live there withouth abandoning most of their exploring spirit.

    D&D 5E (2014) Lost Mines of P: election day!

I just wanted to share something that emerged in our weekend marathon: to celebrate the 40th birthday of one of our team we were able to leave everything and retreat for a looong weekend in the mountains playing D&D, basically we counted 24 hours of gaming, a dream come true J...

    D&D 5E (2014) D&D meets the Walking Dead

A different kind of advice on the mechanical side of things: you could try using zombie "minions" to avoid grind. This is how I do it: villagers zombies have 1 hit point, so everything kills them, but they do gat a save (unmodified) equal to 5 plus the damage received. Basically I remove the HP...

D&D 5E (2014) Spells: the Good, the Bad, and the Downright Orcish Grandmother

The first time we played one of my players insisted that WB can be used like a small Call Lighting: when one bolt ceases, another one can be fired until concentration is mantained. I don't think this is what the text says but perhaps it was poor wording and the spell should read "if you do...

    D&D 5E (2014) Campaign Concept (Feedback Welcome!)

I always like stories about ancient secrets the Gods themselves hide, but… The one thing I would not like if I were a player is the baby part, not because of the babysitting but because they will play for most of the campaigns as protector of the true center of the story, the baby NPC. Here...

    D&D 5E (2014) Undead, how charming...

Yes, there's definetely room for some odd scenario here. I can easily see many DMs will houserule it, whether they know it or not, to honour tradition :) In my games I think I'll try to stick to the rules as presented at first, the good thing about D&D is that you can always find some weird...

    D&D 5E (2014) Undead, how charming...

On the other hand they are able to understand commands, chase their prey and so on, all in virtue of some magic...thus it may have sense that other "mind" influencing magic can interfere with that. Kind of "hacking" their animation magic...this at least is how I'll consider it in order not to...

Thanks for the clarification...still seems a bit odd to me the concept of a charmed skeleton but it may have funny results B-)

    D&D 5E (2014) Undead, how charming...

Dear all, a question comes to my troubled mind after my first 5E session with the final rules: is undead immunity to mind affecting spells and effects gone? The party bard used the cantrip Vicious Mockery against a skeleton and while the description of the cantrip states this is basically a...
