How do you define character "weakness?"

Yep, "It's hard to succeed in checks in my character's profession" covers this one.

    Oh, and Paranoia here too.

How important is it to you or your players for characters to feel "overpowered"?

I think of a hero as someone who does something selfless and good for others, asking little or nothing in return. The fewer superpowers they have, the more heroic they are. :giggle:

How important is it to you or your players for characters to feel "overpowered"?

Yeah, sorry I got two quotes in there but you know what I meant. :ROFLMAO: I was responding to nevin.

How important is it to you or your players for characters to feel "overpowered"?

Which begs the question, is it the minmaxer who cares the most about not feeling powerful enough? Guessing there's a good case for it.

How important is it to you or your players for characters to feel "overpowered"?

I wasn’t referring to you specifically. I was asking the general question “where is the line for different people?” It’s fairly obvious that different people have different thresholds for the definition of character weakness. I'm pretty sure we all agree that different genres are tailored to...

    Other Modes of RPG Play?

    Pendragon is multi-generational.

How important is it to you or your players for characters to feel "overpowered"?

Excellent point, and I point to the "tournament module" in old school games (which I happen to adore by the way). I never identified with the bad guys in those adventures and never wanted them to "beat" the party. I never thought of the GM role as being in competition with players, even then. I...

    Dragonbane general thread

So we had our first extended combat session this Sunday, and it went well. Our party is a human Mariner, halfling Mage, elven Hunter and dwarf Fighter. I've given each starting character an extra free HA and a skill of 15 in one professional skill if none of their skills were 15. Our Mariner has...

How important is it to you or your players for characters to feel "overpowered"?

I love "a dash of munchinkism" and am going to start using that phrase in everyday conversations with random people. 😂 Yeah, I think I'm where you're at and in this survey, I put my vote as Somewhat Important. I like characters that feel challenged, get hurt, but come out on top and eventually...

How do you define character "weakness?"

So it's interesting so far -- the top results are: I'm rarely hitting enemies at all It's hard to succeed in checks in my profession I lose agency in this game frequently Smart planning doesn't reward enough bonuses to offset the other weaknesses Smart planning doesn't reward any bonuses or...

How important is it to you or your players for characters to feel "overpowered"?

I agree with you. There are, however, players who like the curbstomp.

How do you define character "weakness?"

Don't think of that as a system thing, but sure. "System ignores player agency" could work.
  14. Wolfpack48

How do you define character "weakness?"

That’s probably more a GM foible, but I suppose the system might not give the GM enough tools or direction.

How do you define character "weakness?"

So this poll spins off from our other recent poll on how "overpowered" your character needs to feel to enjoy a system. Here we are selecting the element that make your player feel so "weak" that you don't wish to continue the game/system. These will have some extreme choices just for...

How important is it to you or your players for characters to feel "overpowered"?

This question obviously applies to main tier games. I even mentioned D&D. If it‘s a God tier or Superhero game, the question doesn’t apply.

How important is it to you or your players for characters to feel "overpowered"?

I don’t think anyone would disagree that superhero games need to be overpowered. 😉 And to be blunt the players (not all) complaining about underpowered games were younger players. That said, I personally know one player my age who absolutely can’t stand taking even a little damage.

How important is it to you or your players for characters to feel "overpowered"?

In my OP I intentionally used “overpowered” instead of “heroic” because several discussions have cropped up recently about players complaining they couldn’t steamroll enemies easily enough. I’m really interested in where the line is for folks, and I may do another poll to drill down into exactly...

How important is it to you or your players for characters to feel "overpowered"?

See, the bolded is where I think games could do a better job. Smart play is the best offence and defense. If players felt their strategic choices and planning provided a tangible advantage in the system (of course adjudicated fairly), that's where the feeling of power lies. Knowing you are David...
