    LA + Reincarnate = Whaaa?

When you lose a level, your "experience point total is immediatly set to the midpoint of the previous level", so as you have experience points sufficient to be 12th level, I think you just add levels.

Rules in 3.5 that need fixing and what you'd do to fix it.

I'd drop XP. The way the system works now, the DM can choose to give out XP based on the CR of the challenges overcome, and the DM can also choose to give out arbitrary XP for completing campaign goals and so forth. I think it would be much easier if the XP system was replaced with a notation...

    Dear Hasbro: about those minis

Honestly, I think the secondary market for common miniatures like orcs or skeletons works fine. If you go over to ebay, you'll see that complete common sets (1 of each common from a set) generally go for about $6, including shipping. That's about 30 to 50 cents a miniature, which is a pretty...

How many pages does it take to keep track of your PC's abilities?

I don't think I've ever had a character sheet take up more than 1 page (typed up in Word). I even put the full statblock for my familiar/animal companion on it. I'm not really sure how someone would create a longer character sheet, actually. Once you put your attack bonus with all your weapons...

    D&D 3.x A more "old-school" 3.5E

My players have expressed interest in playing a game of D&D using rules more similar to older versions of D&D. However, the only rulebook we have in common is 3.5E, so that's probably the best starting point. I've been trying to come up with the simplest possible house rules to make 3.5E play...

    Polymorph: A Thought

I don't think that's a good balancing factor; it ties the DM's hands in encounter design. Let's say I wanted to have a pack of trolls, with a handful of cave trolls led by a war troll. If that was my standard for polymorph, I couldn't have that encounter, because cave trolls and war trolls are...

    Cure Minor Wounds 1/Minute

I think its silly to base the price of anything off the ring of regeneration. It is a terrible magic item; one of the worst in the game. I know that, as a player, I would much rather have a ring of protection +1, a ring of featherfalling or a ring of force shield, all items much cheaper than the...

What game best captures "D&D" for you?

I put 3.5. My second choice would be BD&D/Rules Cyclopedia (or anything but any version of AD&D).

    Energy Adaptation and Immediate Action

That's not quite true. Some free actions are taken during other actions. For example, "when using a bow, a character can draw ammunition as a free action". That's a pretty clear cut example of taking a free action in the middle of another action.

    M&M2e Alternate Powers

Similarly, if any power in the Array is nullified, you lose the whole thing.

    M&M2e Alternate Powers

You're not limited by the rank of the primary power, only the cost. You could have Blast 5 with an Alternate Power of Strike 10, for example.

Rules that never made sense to you?

I think fixed XP drain would actually be better. The amount of damage a vampire deals with his slam attack doesn't go up with his opponent's level, why should his ability to damage XP?

    Leprosy

Something else to consider is that "The bacterium is ubiquitous in HD endemic areas and approximately 95% of people who are exposed to it do not develop Leprosy due to natural immunity", according to Wikipedia. That implies that it should have an initial Fortitude save of -5 or so (so that only...

Is the barbarian too front loaded?

I've always found it pretty hard to resist one level of barbarian when playing melee combat types, so I would say it is rather front-loaded. If you allow the Extra Rage feat, a single level of barbarian becomes an obvious choice for every non-lawful fighter, and the barbarian is problematically...

Using A Long Spear In Combat

Soft cover also applies "when making a melee attack against a target that isn’t adjacent to you (such as with a reach weapon)".

*Archtypical Paladin Quandry* The 'Are you a Paladin?' Question.

He would not lose his powers, as he did not commit a "gross violation" of the code.

AD&D Saving Throws in 3rd Edition

Well, at high levels, effects with saving throws, such as most spells, would be mostly useless. At low levels, wizards would dominate the game as thier spells would be very, very difficult to resist. A basilisk would inflict terrible damage on a 5th level part for which is is supposed to be a...

    Making guns lethal.

Why not just drop the massive damage threshold? Dropping it to Constitution-10 or something will certainly make the game more lethal, and involves fewer house rules.

Disable device - making it "more fun-er-er"

Well, you can't take 20 on Disable Device checks, because there is a penalty for failure (a failed check can set off the trap), so there should be at least one roll when removing traps.

Come again - you can't shoot bows in melee while in melee?

That's a really bizzare ruling. Not enough momentum? Does that mean he is claming the arrow gains speed in midair?
