    DM Screen

I found the Scarred Lands screen to be the best of the lot before 3.5. I'd use it even if I weren't running Scarred Lands, but that may change if I can get DCC #39 for a little less than $25 + tax.

    DM Screen

Wow! That's incredibly detailed and helpful, thanks! I was wondering what they could possibly have needed a second 4-panel screen for. It retalls for $25 and comes with a short DCC adventure. I have been using the Scarred Lands screen, but it's 3.0, and honestly I don't think I have ever used it...

    DM Screen

I have wanted a good look at this one for a while, but I just can't bring myself to spend $25 on a screen, even if it is huge and comes with an adventure. What makes the DCC screen so excellent, anyways?

    Making the Skill System Work

I must have skimmed past his examples when I read that he was trying to translate the old GDW House system to d20. What I described is that old system. I have no idea what the OP was trying to come up with, but it's not the same. In that old system, you added your Stat (ranging from 1 to 16...

    Making the Skill System Work

In the system the OP is talking about, it's a flat d20 "roll under" style. Someone with a "+20" modifier would need to roll: >5 (Impossible) >10 (Formidible) >20 (Difficult) >40 (Average) >80 (Easy) on a 1d20. Not the same as "roll 1d20+ mods >= DC" currently in use in 3.X ed. Still wouldn't...

Don't you just love it when Adventure hooks fall from the sky?

You could never use this event as a game plot hook, as it happened near "Lake Titicaca".

    Best single volume RPG?

I can't help you with 1. but I'll try with 2. The Explorer's Edition is digest sized, first of all, with less wasted space and a smaller font, so they really cram in a LOT of the original text. Other than that, they dropped all of the example races (humans only in the core book), they dropped...

    Why bother with Vanilla?

When you get a bunch of guys together and say "Let's play D&D", then certain things are expected the group, most of which you consider "Vanilla". Orcs, dwarves, elves, magic, clerics, combat, etc etc etc. Diverge too far from that norm, and it's less immediately recognizable as "D&D". The vast...

How many wizards does it take to screw in a lightbu- I mean, kill Elminster?

So how, exactly, can someone be returned from death in a distant "safe" location, without resorting to magic? I call DM Fiat on that one, in which case this entire exercise is pointless. DM Ed Greenwood wins, thanks for playing. Kill him, cut his pinky off, use it for a Clone spell...

    New Reaper Pre-painted Masters pics

Apparantly there are supposed to be three packs of the orcs and skeletons, but I can't ever find any on the shelves, and according to the Reaper forums, they are out of stock at the manufacturer. Which is a shame, because there is a price break on the multipacks ($5.50 for 3 skeletons vs...

    New Reaper Pre-painted Masters pics

I hear ya. The last two sets of DDM and the latest SWM sets have been a huge step backwards. Three colors and a wash, and not even that is done well. One of my giant eagles had his orange beak down the side of his face, and any flesh tone figures look like they are melting! Not to mention the...

    New Reaper Pre-painted Masters pics

I haven't seen this posted yet, so I'll throw it out there for those interested. New Reaper Pre-painted minis These are masters, but even so, the mind flayer, the ghost and the mummy are pretty exciting, not to mention the gnolls and goblins. And Joe Fighter (and his cousin, Joh Evil...

How many wizards does it take to screw in a lightbu- I mean, kill Elminster?

Take a mid- to high-level monk, give him a Ring of Spell Storing with Anti-magic Field and Teleport. A Belt of Battle is nice, but not required. 1) Teleport next to him 2) Anti-magic Field 3) Grapple T-A-G, he's out.

I dunno, how does nature get rid of corpses if not by feeding them to the bugs?

Or once the wizard hit's 9th level, it can give him something to do for 1 round per 10 cubic feet of raw material.....

This "resting at 9:05 AM" business

Kinda like the wizard in Gauntlet! Infinate puny fireballs, but his magic potions are the BEST!!

This "resting at 9:05 AM" business

Or, instead of being a moron and taking a 1d6 damage/caster level spell, the level 1 wizard could, I dunno, take SLEEP or something in that vein. Now that 1st level spell takes out the CR:3 Ogre that would have pounded the fighter into pink paste.

    mindless eating at games

Our group has commented that we should get Diet Dr Pepper to sponsor us. We go through at least 2 cases in one gathering. Munchies of all sorts are always around, and usually one or more non-playing wives are in attendance, so freshly baked cookies or other treats are usually on the table. Then...

    On Fantasy Names (Resurrected Rant)

Once, a DM (schoolteacher) unleashed a female NPC on us (two veternarians and a scientist) named "Areola". He had no idea why we wouldn't stop laughing every time he mentioned her name.
