What 5th-level spells should any Wizard prepare?

Wall of Force - battlefield control. there are so many uses for an invisible, mostly indestructable wall. Teleport - mobility is good Mage's Private Sanctum - peace and quiet and no scrying me you fools Feeblemind - how would you like to be a drooling idiot? (alternate material component...

Help me choose a feat for my Dwarf Paladin

I love Improved Initiative. However, as a melee combatant, you ideally want the opposition to move to you so they get one attack then you can do a full round attack. If your battlefield control is good (usually from casters limiting opponent options with spells and party mobility/maneuvering)...

    Build leading up to Archmage

Wow, that War Wizard class is nuts! If the DM let that slide, you should cheese a little too. See if he'll let you have an item that gives a bonus to Spellcraft (+10 or better would be nice... and help the Incantatrix make those checks for her special abilities). A caster of 13th level should...

    Build leading up to Archmage

3.5 Incantatrix from Player's Guide to Faerun is awesome. They get some nice abilities... Cooperative metamagic (2nd lvl) - apply a metamagic feat you possess to a spell being cast by a willing allied spellcaster. You have to ready an action, be adjacent to the caster, and make a Spellcraft...

    PCs using bluff on PCs

It is a sticky situation, but by the rules it looks like only Diplomacy (and other abilities that reference Diplomacy, such as Wild Empathy) are not usable on PCs. That's the beautiful thing about DMing... you can change the rules to work as you see fit. In most games I've played in there has...

    PCs using bluff on PCs

As Lord Pendragon said... DMG (3.5) pg 128, under NPC Attitudes "NPCs can never influence PC attitudes. The players always make their characters' decisons." The Diplomacy skill states: "You can change the attitudes of others (nonplayer characters)..." The Bluff skill only indicates "target"

    Build leading up to Archmage

I use Mastery of Shaping alot in conjunction with Wail of the Banshee. There is no way the party will make their saving throws against it with 3.0 prodigy, focus, spell powers and uber Int.

    Build leading up to Archmage

Oh, you are playing 3.0? Definitely take Spell Power +3, +2, Arcane Fire. Spell Power +1 is up there as well unless you have other things you really want. In 3.5, there is no Spell Power +2 or +3. And the 3.0 Incantatrix is not so good.

    Build leading up to Archmage

Here's the path I took with a Human (generalist) Wizard... 1 - Wizard 1st lvl: Summon Familiar, Scribe Scroll; (1st lvl feat) Skill Focus (Spellcraft), (human bonus feat) Spell Casting Prodigy 2 - Wizard 2nd lvl 3 - Wizard 3rd lvl: (3rd lvl feat) Iron Will 4 - Wizard 4th lvl: +1 Int 5 - Wizard...

    Boots of Tremorsense price

Does everyone run high-magic campaigns where you can readily purchase or sell magic items? Admittedly, they are priced rather high. If you can sell them for 75% value somewhere that's a lot of money to pass on - and if you can sell them, you can most likely buy better magic items. I guess I'm...

    Boots of Tremorsense price

Those are handy boots indeed! Not sure what other boots you have but you should at least wear them for awhile to get a sense of how useful they are.

    Character generation methods

Been using this system for a long time and it works well in my campaigns... Roll 4d6 for each ability score (Strength, Dexterity, Constitution, Intelligence, Wisdom, Charisma), total the three highest die Reroll if: no scores are 15+ OR three scores are 9 or less Add one bonus: switch...

What 3rd-level spells should any Wizard prepare?

Haste gives your side the edge in close battles. Suggestion for numerous reasons. Stinking cloud for battlefield control. There are a lot of nice 3rd level spells that all wizards should have in their books (in addition to those above): Fly, Tongues, Dispel Magic, Shrink Item, Fireball or...

    Experience points

According to the DMG, players should receive experience for overcoming obstacles, such as monsters and traps. What do you award experience for? How much "extra" experience do you give? For example, do you give experience for completing tasks or quests? For role-playing? Based on monetary...

    Spell question: Speak with Dead

I'm the player Rocco is talking about. The spell description isn't very clear and is open to interpretation. The spell is meant to speak with the dead (any length of time dead) which the intact skeleton clearly was. By the rules, I can see going either way on this - loose descriptions like...
