Best Way to Play a Swashbuckler with 3.5 Rules?

I think I agree, but I'm not really sure the Musketeers fit the example too well. Most of them are entirely willing to engage in duplicity (Porthos pretends to be his mistress' cousin, D'Artagnan plays with both Kitty's and Milady's hearts; Kitty's at least anyhow. Aramis is always involved in...

[NPC Optimization] How best to make a mounted combatant? (My players stay out!)

Well, why not go with Ranger? With the Mounted Archery feat and a flying mount, he won't have to engage in hand-to-hand combat at all. Of course, a fighter would get more feats. I'm playing a Ranger 6/Windrider 1 at the moment, and the PrC is fun. From a power point of view, even 1 level is...

    the Seven Samurais

Hai! Anyone who enjoyed The Seven Samurai, like Trainz, will probably also enjoy Yojimbo and Sanjuro and probably Throne of Blood too. Although I think I like Ran (which sadly did not have Mifune in it, as he and Kurasawa had a falling out eventually) better in the "adaptation of Shakespeare"...

Best Way to Play a Swashbuckler with 3.5 Rules?

Is this swordsman a stylish and debonaire fellow, as likely to be spotted with a book of poetry and a cup of wine as a sword? Or is he a grim representative of the crown who will stop at nothing to hunt down the king's enemies? Perhaps a young man burning to prove himself and garner honour...

    Angel 5-5

Ha, now that's a good point. And there wasn't anything left of Sunnydale. But I thought he was wearing it when he first arrived in this season of Angel. It was I think reliably visually established in Buffy that he still had the same jacket, in the episode that included the flashback of Spike...

    OGL Ancients, anyone?

Serpopards??? You're right, there needs to be some sort of "great serpent" monster ... although the ketos in the book might do. Certainly for what was sent to eat Andromeda... I don't remember off-hand if the serpent that Castor fought was also water-based or could breathe fire(?!) - I do...

    OGL Ancients, anyone?

Did this come out long enough ago that any discussion of it has completely fallen off of the forum? Or has there simply not been any? I picked this up (against the advice of my pocketbook :)) last week and I think it's pretty cool. I'm a huuuuge fan of Greek mythology, mainly. However the...

Need a list of fantasy books that have thievery in them

The Hobbit! :) I'm trying to remember a trilogy I read in the past couple of years which involves a young man somewhat accidentally apprenticed to a master thief and spy... but I can't remember who it was OR the title... City of Bones, by Martha Wells, has a character who is a dealer in...

    Ogres on Ponies

I don't know if there's anything in the PHB; the guidelines/rules for mounts in Masters of the Wild (with the Windrider prestige class) say that mounts have to be a size larger than the rider.

    Enterprise 04-21-04

Personally, I thought it was kind of a letdown in a number of ways.

    Angel 4/21 (spoilers)

Um, it wasn't a Warlock in the bottle. I definitely feel that Connor "knew" at the end.

    Sorcerer: A racial trait?

Level Adjustment. It means that a character with such a template is treated as one level higher than normal (if there's a +1 Level Adjustment, that is). The sorcerer as written up as a class can't qualify as a race, an ordinary one, anyhow, because it's simply too powerful. Personally I think...

    Bronze Weapons and Armor

In a game without iron or steel weapons, I'd be inclined to use damage and armour values as normal - just perhaps use the lower hardness mentioned in the DMG. It'd just be simpler than subtracting 1 from weapon damage all the time. If bronze was the predominant metal and there were a very...

Alignment definition in my own campaign setting

If law and chaos aren't really factors then I'd have thought the Powers would have more of a NG/NE style to them. Are you really suggesting that PCs with an alignment would have restricted free will?

    From Dreams

Very cool, Eric! There are some interesting dream-related rules in Atlas' Occult Lore (for 3.0). They cover interacting and manipulating dreams via "lucid dreaming", even entering those of others, and some monsters, templates, and items. I think they added more dream monsters in their monster...

    Survival Skill

That must be for the different synergy bonuses. It's one skill, but can get quite a few bonuses - +2 for tracking, +2 for above-ground, etc. (So those combine for a +4 to track above-ground, so far as I know.)
