If there's one game where stat differences are justified, what game would that be?

Hey now. Chandler landed a babe who turned down a billionaire.

My cat was so pretty, my neighbour found it inconceivable that he was male. (His breath was most definitely not pretty. Yes . . . my cat's breath smelled like catfood)

    Is RPGing a *literary* endeavour?

    1. That's not why I play D&D. That stuff can be fun, and is fun, but I really don't want a whole session of that. I probably don't want more than 10 minutes of that at a time. And I know it's a 1, because I've met a group where they'd be at 10, and I've tried playing with other groups who...

I totally agree with what you're saying . . . but the crazy thing is I just got inspired by the idea of the room filling up with smoke. Now, my guns don't use gunpowder or anything what that did create the smoke, so the idea is mostly a dead end . . . unless I introduce some new Bandit gun that...

What does it mean to "Challenge the Character"?

As I was typing up a reply for another thread, it dawned on me that I was also writing up a real-life example akin to the smelly chamberlain: I had . . . :.-( . . . a cat, a very beautiful cat with flowing white fur and the most gorgeous silver-blue eyes. And though he was a charming buffoon...

The Most Popular D&D Character Name Is "Bob"

Well, if it makes you feel better, if they ever named a character after me, he'd be way more attractive than I am, too . . . y'know I just realized they did name a character after my cat. The cat was way better looking. Catch-a-Purrrr!

They named a Borderlands character after you! I'm so jealous.

    Is RPGing a *literary* endeavour?

I had . . . :.-( . . . a cat, a very beautiful cat with flowing white fur and the most gorgeous silver-blue eyes. And though he was a charming buffoon, he carried himself with a natural elegance, like the whole world was his catwalk. I also had a neighbour . . . insisted on calling him by a...

My favorite wrestling (entry) moment was Kurt Angle returning after an injury, with a giant smile played to his face while the crowd sang "You Suck!" . . . and then asking for his song to be played again so they could keep singing "You Suck!"

Nice. By the way, interesting fact I only noticed last night: I went with a range of 20/80 for the shotgun, but that's because I never noticed at the time that the DMG made the long range for guns equal to triple the normal range. I based my guns on the PH crossbows, and their long range is...

    Is RPGing a *literary* endeavour?

Ouch. This gotta be the meanest thing anyone else ever said to me here. I mean, not even bothering to call me by name stings but that's not too bad. If you had just said I wasn't funny, that might've been okay. Jokes fall flat, it's what they do ("especially when you tell them!" cry the...

Aye, that's indeed what I did. ( Although It's simply half damage at long range instead of different damage dice, so that Dex and other damage modifiers are also affected)

Yeah, I'm talking a modern shotgun (although I responded to someone who definitely meant blunderbuss), although I was aiming for more a video game stereotype of a shotgun than a real world version. And I considered burning hands-like effects, too, but I still wanted the weapon to function as...

    Thinking about an advancement system

Right. So, if you amended the idea so that the skill improves 1% every time the character fails at a task he could have succeed at if he rolled 100 (or should that be a 1?), the character wouldn't be able to game the system by seeking out actually impossible tasks. And perhaps if the system...

    Thinking about an advancement system

So you'd find lots of hard tasks, instead. (And that's what they'd have been doing from the start, since they were trying to fail). But then, this creates a story where the character is constantly trying to test his limit, which could work out well.

I did not know that. I came about my solution by considering and rejecting every 3rd party D&D shotgun rule I found. The process did serve to inspire my solution, although I think I only settled on it when I simultaneously decided "you know what, I'm just gonna make the sniper rifle good at...

On Presentation, Performance, and Style- Players and DMs

To start: I most definitely do not use funny voices for the NPCs. My players mock me mercilessly for my terrible voice work. The only accent I can do passingly well with is "pirate" . . . and I'm running a megadungeon so there's really no call for (more than a handful of) pirates. Oh wait, I can...
