D&D 5E (2014) Game design allow sub optimal class build. Confirmed by M Mearls

Banana, out of curiosity... Stat allocation for Cleetus as you imagined it, considering standard array as the Stat generation method? You know, unless rolled, he is going to have some good... somewhere. You know, he could actually be a very strange Mountain dwarf Wizard, running around in...

D&D 5E (2014) Game design allow sub optimal class build. Confirmed by M Mearls

Oh, and i was thinking that what is written in the manual and the meaning of that tweet is that 5e was actually a business product based around letting your customers enjoy the game and have fun, feeling rewarded for money well spent, and that was what actually mattered. Silly me...

    D&D 5E (2014) Darkvision + Skulker = Blind sight?

Nope. Darkvision by itself does not. Specific istances of Darkvision (like the racials) do, however. And even then, we were talking about the "dim light" Darkvision provides when already in complete darkness, so... Edit: Darkvision changed officially, first part not true anymore :P

    D&D 5E (2014) Darkvision + Skulker = Blind sight?

By the way, this still does not allow the player to "see" in dim light as if it was bright light. It just removes the penality on perception checks. Other limitations still apply. He is just trained to spot things better and used to look at things while there's little light, understanding what...

D&D 5E (2014) I'm the DM and a player is trying to abuse the Immovable Rod. Advice?

Now i'm imagining swarms of Immovable Rods and the Immovable Ooze. Brain please. Edit: The Immovable Ooze, the best paperweight ever. I can see it on the Desk of every deviate wizard. Also useful to destroy those demonology papers just before some guest comes in unexpectedly. Or to get rid of...

D&D 5E (2014) I'm the DM and a player is trying to abuse the Immovable Rod. Advice?

Unless it's a Immovable Rod and somehow you activate it in midair. It doesn't exactly GO anywhere... but it sure as hell it does not drop! :D Tell that to the barbarian that just launched himself from way too high in the sky and landed alive. And can do that consistently. I guess he is a very...

[Fixing 5E] Saving Throws - Fortitude Reflex Will

I suggest to: Fix the difficulty for monster caused saves at whatever amount of types you want, example Easy (must roll 6+) Normal (11+) Hard (16+) Add either proficiency to proficient saves OR Stat bonuses for Pc's. It fixes the problem that you are experiencing, does not changes that...

D&D 5E (2014) So my Dm wants to nerf my Vengence paladin against all but chosen foes?!

The idea could be fun, just ask him to consider that you might also be like the Punisher... reaching the evil is just as important as actually putting it to rest. Anyone that stands in your way could also liable of judgement... but as your Oath say it might be worth your mercy. Just because it's...

    D&D 5E (2014) Is a Half-Caster -but still Magical- Cleric too different?

Just a random idea: Get rid of spellcasting. You do not need spellcasting to have them being magical, Clerics just need to have abilities that create supernatural effects. Think about Warlock's invocations, featuring specific "paths" you could take to have, for example The more...

D&D 5E (2014) Legal Ready action triggers and order of resolution

While an "attack with a melee weapon requires a melee weapon", but it's not necessarly a melee attack. See my point now? So i will ask... where does it say a reaction can? "If the reaction interrupts another creature's turn, that creature can continue its turn right after the reaction." So we...

Spells that could be improved / better designed

When you finish a long rest. Page 114 PHB, just before the "spellcasting ability" section. Changing spells takes 1 minute per spell level per each spell on your list (i personally change that to "per each spell you are changing", but that's me, not the handbook). Just like a cleric. The big...

D&D 5E (2014) Is It Impossible To Benefit From 'One With Shadows'?

Just a little clarification: I had more problems with the "hide in plain sight" part, meaning that a rogue could not do what you where saying in the middle of nowhere with onlookers. Since it does not seem the case given your example, it seems more of a misnoming than anything else. We agree ;)...

D&D 5E (2014) Legal Ready action triggers and order of resolution

PHB, 190, Reactions: "Certain special abilities, spells, and situations allow you to take a special action called a reaction." PHB, 193, "Ready" section. "To do so, you can take the Ready action on your turn so that you can act later in the round using your reaction." "When the lrigger occurs...

Spells that could be improved / better designed

I do not understand, sorry. You are saying that you cannot change spells like clerics do? You can change your prepared spells just fine! Also, the 2 spells that you mentioned are Rituals, you do not even need to have them prepared to be cast as ritual! While you do not have access to all your...

D&D 5E (2014) Is It Impossible To Benefit From 'One With Shadows'?

I'll point them out from RAW as i know it (and i might be wrong, see my question to Corwin later in the post). Obviously, i'm talking about RAW here since that is what the OP was about. Case 1) "He can either try to hit something that might or might not be there." He knows the warlock is...

D&D 5E (2014) Legal Ready action triggers and order of resolution

No i'm not. I'm saying that unless specified, a reaction can interrupt a TURN, not an ACTION. You would trigger immediately, but the action has to pass UNLESS it is specified in a different manner. Such as Counterspell defines in its description. It being a reaction does not make it instantly...

D&D 5E (2014) Legal Ready action triggers and order of resolution

First: If that was the only part of Counterspell that interacted with spells, your reaction would go after the spell was cast and you would have countered nothing. Reactions do not automatically go before or during the action that triggers them, it has to specified, as is for AoO and...

This is taking more time than what i expected from myself. I have not even have a gut feeling of how balanced your version is. I need more time ;)

D&D 5E (2014) Is It Impossible To Benefit From 'One With Shadows'?

As always, i've added the number and trimmed the posts so that it isn't too much of a wall. 1) PHB 192, Hide section. "When you take the Hide action..." You forgot to add this in your analysis, and then... 2a&b)Helldritch starts his point with "Part of the hide action...". One with the Shadows...

D&D 5E (2014) Legal Ready action triggers and order of resolution

A better trigger would have been "if he does anything but surrender, i'll shoot him". Either way, by reading your action, you are aware you are going to act AFTER he acts. That's the disadvantage you are giving yourself to be a "good" guy. You could always strike to inflict subduing damage, btw...
