    Necromancer/White Wolf hacked

Use of the word "hackers" as a derogatory term applied to those people that go around compromising systems and destroying data/stealing etc. is generally frowned upon by those people that originally coined the term, which referred basically to programmers and hobbyists that modified...

I Love Gaming but I Hate Gamers!

I'd have to say that cool people are the exception to the rule full stop. Most people are immature and nonsensical.

    OGC Wiki?

GMSkarka, that was secondary to my point, however. I was merely commenting on the particular language used to express the "Most people don't understand the OGL" message. However, I do understand the argument you're making. I agree that an OGC Wiki would likely end up being bad for gamers...

    OGC Wiki?

If your previous post is indicative of how you normally treat customers, then it's no wonder they resent you (the post having been rather elitist and insulting). I'm not trying to start a "flame war" or insult you here, I'm just pointing out how your post came across to me (and others, from...

    In-Character versus Out-Of-Character

My main sessions are via ORPG (both one that I run as well as one that I play in) and save for during battles, most everything is either first or third person dialog by the players and DM (i.e. either Raloc: Magnus, you bastard, you've been ripping me off by 25% on magic this whole time! or...

Player with D&D Game Problem - Advice requested!

I definitely understand this. I don't think I'd want to split up my RL playing group and try to DM both of them. I'm very used to playing with my group that I've known on IRC for 7 years (we have all met in person, in Switzerland last March, but mainly play on ORPG). We tend to be able to...

What have we learned from TV?

My style is much more reminiscent of a novel from the point of view of the characters than television. I have to be careful about giving OOC information, as a couple of my players metagame unconsciously. I think it's a fun style, and it seems like a novel to me (since I'm the narrative), but...

Player with D&D Game Problem - Advice requested!

Agreed completely. The character was invested emotionally in the town, and now it's destroyed. What do you have the character do? Even if other characters in the party don't agree or care enough, your character *does* and should go and do what she must in this particular instance. At least...

Player with D&D Game Problem - Advice requested!

Breaking of the group like this doesn't necessarily have to be doom and gloom. Split groups can actually be much fun, provided everyone keeps a bit of patience about them. The quest to find missing friends is more important to some of the characters, maybe they should go and investigate in...

Player with D&D Game Problem - Advice requested!

Hehe, I dragged my players through those places myself, though in different order (from Waterdeep to Athkatla, to Calimshan and up through the Lake of Steam and on to the Pirate Isles).

Player with D&D Game Problem - Advice requested!

Why are there no options for dealing with the situation in character? Do you feel that there aren't any possible ways to resolve it in game? It seems to me that the afore mentioned situation would be perfect to roleplay your character seeking to right the situation and and least liberate the...

(Update) DM Decision: Player mistake- what would you do

I don't think I would consider that PC dead yet, TBH. I mean, she's falling endlessly? Well, she have an Immovable Rod? Rope? Grappling hook? Are there protrusions of stone? The character isn't dead until she's at -10 IMO. I'd let the player play out the consequences of her (mistaken...

    Favorite Half-Orc One Liner's

Upon borrowing some horses from a sorceror that wished us to retrieve some magic items for him, we mounted up and the half-orc in the party failed his ride check utterly. This is the quote, "Lub make horse go with sword!" The sorceror, predictably, was not pleased.

    Once Bitten, Twice Shy

Definitely. In-fighting is a failure of the players to resolve their OOC differences before sitting at the (physical or virtual) game table. That said, in party conflict can sometimes be fun, given the players all understand that it may eventually lead to one or more of their characters dying...

    Gaming in an open enviroment

This is basically how I DM, although in the current campaign I'm running, there is a huge plot going on as well, which the players luckily happened to get tied into in the first session. Quoted due to it being said more elegantly than I did.

    Gaming in an open enviroment

I actually do the "no plan" plan thing myself, sort of. In this case, I have the entire campaign roughly planned out in my head, and allow the PCs to do whatever they want. I am much too lazy, however, to actually plan every place in the campaign. So what I do instead is, just reason through...

    Dungeon #130

Hmm, thanks for the heads up, will have to check that out. /me goes to check Monte's site, since he hasn't done so for ages.

Dm quit, should I take over?

Hrm...I'd say start at first as well. That said, making engaging scenarios for first level is very challenging due to the high death rate of the party (assuming the party doesn't have a cleric, that is, which has been the case for every campaign I've played in in recent memory).

    Dungeon #130

I think I can say I have winging it down to a proverbial artform, but I like most anything written by Monte. May have to pick this one up (honestly, I'd like to just get a sub, but I don't know if I want to spend the money :/)

NPCs with a neat escape method

I actually used a fairly fun escape method for an NPC I was determined to have as a recurring villain (he's a huge part of the plot, actually). The PCs fought him and barely won (his controlled giant spiders turned on him), at which point they left him in the main chamber of the place they were...
