    D&D 5E (2014) "Champion" equivalent Magic User?

Has anyone had any luck hacking together a magic user who is about as easy to use as the Champion for people who aren't terribly interested in mechanics? I wish the Warlock was this but there are so many moving pieces at a glance.

D&D 5E (2014) Everybody's got to have a Patron deity. Where did it come from?

I think that it stands to reason that any world in which gods were demonstrably real would be very different from our own. In a world where clerics could bring people back to life or strike people dead would see a lot more faithfully observant people. So to me (assuming I understand the premise...

    D&D 5E (2014) Are you a cat person?

I'm okay with whatever. I've never played with anyone who has role-played a non-human character in an interesting way that justified the fact that they are not human, so any snobbery would be arbitrary.

D&D 5E (2014) Chapter Three of Lost Mines of Phandelver is Frustrating

My players did exactly as yours OP and had no issues with Cragmaw. They are total idiots too, so I think any players should be fine.

    D&D 5E (2014) Xanathar's Guide to Everything -- new mechanical expansion/UA book! -- November 10 with a limited-edition cover by Hydro74

Same here. No idea who he is or much about FR. I'm enjoying 5e despite having never been much into the realms. It's just words.

D&D 5E (2014) Why I Am Starting to Prefer 4d6 Drop the Lowest Over the Default Array.

Optimizing isn't really necessary in 5e, so if you wanna play a Gish or whatever with the standard array you should be fine. That said, you do you.

D&D 5E (2014) Has anyone ran an encounter (or fought) with The Kraken form the MM?

Thanks for the input. I'm thinking I might try it. Perhaps at level 13though just to be safe.

D&D 5E (2014) Musical instrument tool proficiency and performance skill proficiency

I think anyone who has ever spent any time in a Guitar Center knows the difference between someone with technical skill and a performer :) I had a dungeon with a door that could only be opened by playing a specific chord. It was relatively tricky to play so it required a proficiency check to...

D&D 5E (2014) Has anyone ran an encounter (or fought) with The Kraken form the MM?

Jeez louise! I was wondering how realistic throwing 4 fully rested level 12 PCs was. This is giving me a small amount of hope.

D&D 5E (2014) Has anyone ran an encounter (or fought) with The Kraken form the MM?

What level are they? Any wisdom you can impart about running a Kraken from watching it?

How did it go? What level were the PCs? Any fun?

D&D 5E (2014) 5e Inventory Tracking Sheet (with Simplified Encumbrance)

HOLY SMOKES! Thanks soooooo much. I am definitely gonna be using this and will definitely be singing your praises! EDIT: I mentioned this elsewhere, but people who find it just a few slots too restrictive might consider a variant where PCs also gain or lose slots equal to their CON modifier. I...

D&D 5E (2014) 5e Inventory Tracking Sheet (with Simplified Encumbrance)

A few teensy tiny things. Mainly, I think I'd like to see five faint gray bubbles in the corner of the inventory slots to make tracking things like torches a little cleaner. At least to my stupid brain. I'd like to cheat padded armor to cost 1 point instead of 2. Also, if I were already...

D&D 5E (2014) 5e Inventory Tracking Sheet (with Simplified Encumbrance)

My love for this and my laziness and battling to the death with my desire to slightly tweak it. Really cool stuff.

[UPDATED] Here's Mike Mearls' New D&D 5E Initiative System

I might be compelled to try something like this, but I think it would need to be less frequent. It's less thematic but I might say that there are "triggers" for rolling initiative including a PC dropping and new combatants entering the battlefield. When one of these events occurs you reroll...

    D&D 5E (2014) Mike Mearls' AMA Summary

Some stuff people get bent out of shape over seems to be too speculative to even offer a reaction for in my opinion. Still, interesting to see where a designer's head is at. Of these things the thing that I am most curious about is Bonus Actions, simply becuase the current action economy in 5e...

    D&D 5E (2014) Non-stealth surprise

Yeah I would probably give the Barbarian surprise and then it goes off of initiative. Combat is so so fast that initiative is easy for me to think of as simply the time it takes for someone to draw their weapon when trouble erupts. Unless... well... There might be fun in rolling a contested...

D&D 5E (2014) So what adventures have you played recently? Modules? DYO?

At least your PCs spoke to any of the non-essential NPCs, haha. My PCs were completely disinterested in the side quests. Bit of a bummer honestly. Even then I forgot the local druid's name.

D&D 5E (2014) So what adventures have you played recently? Modules? DYO?

I do mostly home brew out of cheapness. I ran Ravenloft (the first one) in 5e. Also Phandelver right st the start.
