D&D 5E (2014) 'The Thing' Inspired Rime of the Frostmaiden Has Player Secrets [Updated]

I'm fine with dark secrets and betrayal in a one-off or very short campaign, but I tend to run and prefer long cmpaigns of the year to several years variety, and they don;t tend to work as well in those cases. If there's a traitor mechanic built in to this campaign and it's otherwise a good...

    D&D 5E (2014) WotC's Jeremy Crawford on D&D Races Going Forward

And that's taking as read his very doubtful statistics. I onder what his reaction would be if the actual figures are 80% that recognose racism and 20% who don't? And that's still putting a large percentage in favour of bigotry as the audience for D&D, which I doubt (and hope not) is the case.

[Columbia Games 1983] Hârn World for Hârn Master

You're welcome. Since Harn was based in part on Tolkein (the elves and dwarves, and some of the metaphysical stuff concerning other worlds - one of which is Middle Earth), it makes a pretty good fit. The work you'd have to do would be on the religions and priestly powers, and on the Shek-Pvar...

    D&D 5E (2014) WotC's Jeremy Crawford on D&D Races Going Forward

And, lest we forget, as someone who's suffering the trauma of being slapped, he's in position to judge whether he's facing anything bad, so only those unaffected can judge whether that's so. Since I'm not being slapped, I can categorically state that he's not facing anything bad (using another...

D&D General WotC’s Official Announcement About Diversity, Races, and D&D

She doesn't mean billionarires per se. Look at the rest of it - billionaires, globalists. I'm surprised she didn't add bankers to the usual tropes for anti-semitic crap. Especially with the added line "I think you know the ones I'm referring to ;)" there. Following that up with "much like...

Ripple Effect of D&D's Statement on the Rest of the RPG Industry?

The new version of Masks of Nyarlathotep is great in this regard. The enhanced sections on New York (in Harlem in particular) stand out as being well-thought out concerning the racism of the period, and the designer notes that talk about how the campaign as a whole came about from having read a...

[Columbia Games 1983] Hârn World for Hârn Master

I've run it in a couple of systems, mostly harnmaster of various editions, quite a few times. I've never run it using D&D, though I know a few people who tried with 3rd ed (with mixed results to say the least, and not my cup of tea). Using 5th ed would be just as out of place if you want to keep...

    D&D 5E (2014) WotC's Jeremy Crawford on D&D Races Going Forward

By that "logic" then black people can't describe anything as racist, since they're the ones affected by it, but white people can, because they aren't affected by it and are objective? Is that the point you're trying to make, because it's what you're saying right there. To claim that victims of...

D&D General WotC’s Official Announcement About Diversity, Races, and D&D

It's often worth seeing who likes their posts too, you soon get a good idea that way of what particular people are like and the ideas they support / reject. And of course, likes from racists might actually make some people reconsider; not many people enjoy being linked to bigots, so if their...

D&D General WotC’s Official Announcement About Diversity, Races, and D&D

It seems pretty obvious that reading the announcement shows wotc are wanting to appeal to a more diverse audience, as that's where future growth lies. By doing so, the racist bigoted minority are getting upset by it. I'm good with that, and I'm pretty sure wotc are too. If it leads to the bigots...

D&D General WotC’s Official Announcement About Diversity, Races, and D&D

...and they require a large blood sacrifice in order to empower an evil ritual, hence the need for the heroes to slaughter them. At some point, the players should start to find clues and put it all together, hopefully before they've killed off everyone, because they're going to need the help of...

D&D 5E (2014) WotC Confirms Horror-themed Icewind Dale: Rime of the Frostmaiden

I'm looking forward in general to this book, but the 3 kobolds in a trenchcoat strikes me as a very silly addition to what's supposed to be a horror adventure. I prefer my horror to be more serious, so as not to spoil the mood. If I can remove that part easily if I run it, I will do.

D&D General WotC’s Official Announcement About Diversity, Races, and D&D

I don't think it's an old / young thing per se, it's more of a bigot / nonbigot thing, and thankfully a lot of younger people are eschewing the bigotry of yesteryear. There are still some young bigots out there, unfortunately (the alt right crowd are mostly young), but some of us oldsters are...
