    D&D 3.x [3.5E] Bow & Arrows plusses don't stack anymore!

Hi everybody, over at Andy Collins boards I found this thread in which a guy named Hawker mentions his findings from Dungeon 100. Obviously the magic bonus from bows and arrows don't stack anymore. Andy Collins himself gives congrats to the guy for his sharp eyes and says that Hawker's right...

    Invisibility and Bat Familiars

Hi, I'm just wondering, how a bat knows that something's invisible. OK, in range of its normal sight it's clear, but beyond that range... It would be only sensible if the wizard had somehow detected the presence of an invisible creature and asked his familiar for what creatures it "sees". Or...

    Disintegrate

Hi everybody, IMC we use the rules as written (only one creature or an object gets disintegrated). We envisioned the selection of the target as a process during the casting, i.e. you select an object (e.g. armor) by just pointing the index finger but you target the creature if you put your...

I posted an alternative system some time ago in house rules in this thread . Greetings Firzair

    Shield spell items

Sorry, but you cannot create a permanent effect from an instantanous spell. Best you could do by the (silly) DMG rules is create a command word activated item that lets you cast the spell once per round (I said the rules are silly) for the same cost as an item that lets you cast the spell only 5...

How much would this magic item cost?

It would cost even more by my rules as you would use the formula for making a spell with a duration of 1 round/level permanent, that would cost you 4500 gp * 5 * 9 = 202500 gp to create and 16200 xp. I said the prices were open for discussion ;) Oh and for the reaoning behind using caster level...

    Familiar Replacement

Wow, thanks for the credits Purzel. You really did an amazing job with this! I really like it and I will use it. My wizard will hate to dismiss his familiar but this staff is so much cooler! Greetings Firzair

How much would this magic item cost?

Hi Tabula, I thought he was going for a by the books answer. But I'm in your boat, I have a similar house rule (exactly a table of costs) for continous effects in items from spells with a certain duration. A few days ago I posted a thread wanting to create a better magic item creation cost...

    Simple fix for multi-classed spellcasters?

Hi everybody, initialy I thought it's a great idea to raise the caster level of multiclassed characters a little (going the 1/2 off-levels route). But how do I rectify the 8th level fighter gaining one level as cleric casting Cure light wounds like 5th level cleric? Is he so good a cleric with...

How much would this magic item cost?

Hi tennyson, I don't have my books with me, but I would for for the following (from mind): 1. permanent Righteous Might would cost 2000 gp times spell level squared so 5 squared times 2000 for a sum of 50000 gp. 2. I would go for the spell Plane shift twice per month (to shadow realms and back)...

    Familiar Replacement

Welcome to the boards Purzel! I think your idea is quite balanced and practical. Only problem could be the unlimited use of light, but I think the number of available cantrips is much too low by the rules so I would allow it. It's a nice replacement for a familiar that has a nice touch. Perhaps...

    New Magic Item Cost Rules

Hi Kerrick, seems like you overlooked my first premise: The given prices are only the cost the creator has to pay! So the items with charges cost exactly the same as a wand in the DMG (costs given are per 10 charges, so a wand of CLW with 50 charges costs 75 gp * 5 (for 50 charges) = 375 gp to...

    My house rules [Long]

Hi everybody, I just wanted to share some of my house rules for our high powered high magic FR campaign. Feats: Every creature gets 1 feat at each odd character level, so on level 1,3,5 etc. This is the same for PCs, NPCs and Monsters. Current number of available feats: 343 Race changes...

    New Magic Item Cost Rules

Further there should be rules for limiting the usability of the item, e.g. it could only be used ba a certain race. These limits also should raise the creation cost (gp and therefore xp) of the item. Here's my take on limits: Limited to a certain race 1500...

    New Magic Item Cost Rules

Hi everybody, I want to clear the rules for magic item creation cost, so that it encompasses everything and works for almost all spells that are not broken by themselves. So here's my first try: Premises: - These rules just give the cost for creating the items, not for market value! Market...

    Feats that Raise Ability Scores

Hello Green Slime, you've got it right, I changed the feat progression IMC. There are just two fighters, one monk, one cleric, one wizard and a rogue. I also changed the feat progression for monsters and NPCs so that they are all the same! It's a high powered campaign but balanced very well. I...

Unusual Weapon Abilities vs. the DMG

As I already said in a recent thread about magic items, there should be hard rules for magic item creation and the cost thereof. BUT there should be only given the cost to create not the market price! Market price is determined by the sellers! I also suggested that we should go and create these...

    Feats that Raise Ability Scores

Hi everybody, IMC I have a feat "Raise Ability" that lets you raise an ability score just like every 4th character level lets you do it. Could be taken more than once for the same attribute. No balance problems so far (noone has taken it more than once so far, we're at level 12 now with regular...

A question about magic item creation?

Hi everybody, IMHO there should be hard rules for item creation prices. Magic doesn't make a difference between a featherfall spell and an enlarge spell, both are first level. Does magic know that improved invisibility is so much harder to make permanent than say Scrying (e.g. used for crystal...
