    Clerics, whats your favourite spells?

How about Monsterous Regeneration to turn all damage into subdual. And then Favor of Illmater to make you immune to subdual damage? >:) Strange that no-one likes Harm; seems like a decent spell to me...

    Smack Down under 10

Wooden Shield + Spikes spell + Rhino Hide + Shield Charge (or whatever that feat is that doubles the damage).

    Would this work?

If I recall correctly, falling damage in 3rd Ed is 1d6 per 10 ft fallen, to a maximum of 20d6. This proves that accelleration due to gravity is linear in D&D world, with a rather low terminal velocity. Note also that there is no rule that lifts the 20d6 limit in a vaccum; so (in D&D land) this...

Delayed blast fireball and gloves of storing.

If you decide to rule that the undefined term "stasis" includes spell durations, then you deserve all of the problems that you are unleashing upon yourself.

Is the Arcan Trickster (T&B) a playable prestige class?

I don't have the book handy, but couldn't you just burn a feat on Cosmopolitan for Decipher Script and so get into the PrC earlier? Are there any other ways (using feats or such) that you could become an Arcane Trickster at an earlier level than the usual approach?

Trying to build an archive of responses from The Sage

Sage Responses I'm not registered over at the other board, and you needed a bump anyway, so here are a couple of responses I have gotten: ---------------------------------- 1) If a fighter is hit by a targeted Dispel Magic and that fighter is holding a flaming sword that has had Greater...

    Max skill Ranks question

I can see an argument being made that you would have had to spend those points while you were a fighter in order to achieve the maximum possible. I'm not certain on whether that is clear in the rules or not (and can't think of a string to search for in the SRD). Good question though.

Fireball and Web -- good combo?

I'm not certain that "immobilized" = "paralyzed" in this instance. The spell description says that people who fail their save "can't move" but I'm thinking that this means they cannot leave the square they are in (as opposed to being frozen rigid). In effect, their movement rate has been cut to...

    Help price: Cleric's Belt

Seems strange you say everything except the duration is based on the current wearer's level; especailly considering that duration is the only stat that is affected by level in the spell description. Really what this belt does is "Allow the Cleric to invoke Divine Power once per day as if she...

    Monster Manual Errata

Could you summarize Skip's view on this, or give me a pointer to the thread? I wasn't aware of any Sage changes/clarifications to Improved Grab.

    Can't sneak attack in dungeons?

So "Light fog; moderate darkness; & light foliage" all grant a small amount of concealment (one quarter). But you cannot Sneak Attack a target with any concealment at all. How many DM's inflict this on their poor rogues? Trying to backstab someone in a shadowy alley? Too bad, that's moderate...

    Faster/More Efficient Combat?

You might want to note that the DMG says that you should only roll a single d20 in this situation, and then add the individual player's modifiers to that roll to see who is heard and who is not. So you'd roll one d20 for the party's Move Silently and one d20 for their Hide. Then one d20 for the...

    Faster/More Efficient Combat?

Keeper of the Initiative We've recently started assinging a player to be the "Initiative Keeper" and this helps speed things along. That person keeps the list of everyone in initiative order (updating as needed). During a fight, they say who is next and who is "on deck" so that they know to get...

    DotF Spell: Spikes

The Magic of Fearun also has a wood that you can make swords and stuff with. It's cheap, and permanent; though it is up to the DM if Spikes will effect non-bludgeoning weapons (the spell description makes it look like the author assumed it was for clubs and such, but didn't find it worth while...

New and Different Question about Shield

A Shield spell would be useless when grappling since you are both in the same square. You're not going to be able to place the plane of the shield anywhere such that it will be between you and the other grappler(s) in this situation. With regards to readying to strike when the caster attacks...

    Glove of Storing too powerful?

Ok Oni, I apologize. That whole "letter of the rules" without providing a quote thing is just a pet peeve of mine (right up there with "sure you can do that; you can make whatever house rules you want."). Too often is it used to try and shut down the opposition without providing a real argument...

    Glove of Storing too powerful?

Another potential abuse problem: assume you had one of these on your left hand and used it to store a shield. Couldn't you fight with a two handed weapon, then at the end of your turn retrieve the shield (shifting your weapon to the other hand). At the start of your next turn, you store the...

    Glove of Storing too powerful?

Wow Oni, you certainly win the award for pompous condesention for today. Now, could you please show me the written rule that defines Statis as an effect that changes the duration of a spell? You speak of the letter of the law, but I cannot find any letters at all that define this term in the D&D...

Can Clerics Forego Spell Preparation Like Wizards?

Hmm, that ain't a bad idea. I usually keep "Energy Immunity (Electricity)" (level 6) memorized and cast it each night since it has a 24 hr duration. But if I don't actually memorize it until bed time, then I can keep that slot open during the day and fill it in with something else if I need too...
