Then only use the projector during combat. I hope your combat scenes don't last that long :)

    Coolest. Gaming Set-up. Evar.

Maybe that's why I buy so many books... Although I think the more likely explanation is because I work near a great game store, so it's so easy to just stop there on the way back to the subway. Especially since they have used game books, so I can say "well, it will be sold soon, I need to buy...

    GURPS vs. Harp

There are other good fantasy RPGs out there other than HARP and GURPS. (I don't have HARP myself, but I've heard interesting things about it. I do have GURPS, and like it for sci-fi and modern stuff). Burning Wheel (an indie RPG) is way cool, and I've always been a fan of Earthdawn. (The...

Do you have any dice superstitions

Sort of. I know they are not true, but it is fun to pretend they are. So my for fun superstitions are: Some dice are better than others (only true if they are damaged, which mine are not). It is bad luck for someone else to touch your dice. It is bad luck to roll someone else's dice. It is...

    Do we really need Monkeys?

Well, there is the point that your view of fantasy does not encompass all views of fantasy. D&D needs to account for these views, and has indeed created its own view of fantasy that it needs to support. Now, I've never used monkeys, but I could see them being used in pirate games (as someone...

Malhavoc Press and You Can Help Relief Efforts

That's great. I'll definetly be buying that when it comes out. I'm a big fan of Monte's adventures (haven't been able to play any yet, but they are fun reading). Every so often you realize what great people gamers are. This is one of those times.

What do your Orcs look like?

I generally think of orcs as they appear in various Warhammer products. I never really describe them that much, though, I just let everyone imagine orcs as they wish.

printing pdf's vs. books - cost comparison?

Yeah, I had an inkjet, not a laser printer, now that I think of it. It was awhile ago, and I must've blocked the memory of that money muncher. Think how many cool RPG books I could've bought if I hadn't had to spend money on print cartridges. 4500-5000 pages on a laser printer... yeah, my...

printing pdf's vs. books - cost comparison?

What kind of printers do you guys get? Back when I had my laser printer I was lucky to get 100 pages before the ink ran out (easy to do when working on school papers). Then I had to spend $80 on another cartridge. Man, I hated that printer.

    Why do elves trance?

Jeez, you must hate elves almost as much as I do. And I'm a dwarf!

    Troy- Achilles a epic hero?

Not such a bad movie?! It was great! Personally, I loved it. While I don't think it has stats on the heroes (I haven't read the whole thing yet) "The New Argonauts" by Sean K. Reynolds games is pretty cool. Lots of good ideas.

Things you didn't know about D&D...

That reminds me of some fun a friend and I had back in our high school days. We were both on AOL at the time (thankfully not anymore), and the Star Wars rereleases had just come out. My friend had this idea to make up a fake book trilogy- the "Inner Systems Trilogy" and just talk about it in a...

Is it OK to distribute others' OGC for free?

Your analogy is flawed. A stick-up is illegal. Releasing OGC for free is not.

Is it OK to distribute others' OGC for free?

I need to nip this in the bud. WotC cannot "revoke" the OGL. That's the whole point of an open license- it's self-perpetuating. That's why when you use OGC, you have to make your derived content OGC as well. As to whether WotC can "revoke" the d20 license, that is another story. They can do...

Player seeking group in Boston area

Hi, I moved to Boston recently and I'm looking for a group to play some D&D with. Right now I'm looking to join as a player; I have done a lot of DMing, but I want to get on the other side of the screen for a change. I figure that since there are lots of colleges here, there should be a bunch...

Is it OK to distribute others' OGC for free?

Disclaimer: IANAL. I don't claim to be an expert on copyright law in general or the OGL in particular. However, I have been following the OGL since before 3E came out, and I do know a bit about copyright law from research I did while at university. Also, I used to read the open gaming mailing...

If you could try a RPG that ISN'T D&D...

In no particular order: Games I'd love to play, but haven't: Mechwarrior 3rd Edition (I played a lot of 2e, but never the 3rd, which looks way awesome. Unfortunately I can never get anyone to GM a Battletech game, other than myself...) All Flesh Must be Eaten GURPS Space Runequest HARP...

A simplified D&D? Aren't you all forgetting something...

It is certainly the case that 2e is simpler than 3e. Though I think 3e is a lot less clunky, even though it is more complicated. It is more streamlined. That being said, sometimes you want simplicity. If you want simplicity you don't necessarily have to just go with 2e. There are plenty of...
