Oh I didn't explain the light source thing. It seems the brighter and more light we had(which people want so they can see maps, books, and such) the more intrusive or a distraction it was. The dimmer light it seemed to work.

I have found that it is also directly related to light sources. Tried to insert cool music for the longest time. I have only ever done it once successfully.(In one campaign) we were epic level and the culmination had breaking benjamins "So Cold" rocking it out.

Well you can always use different constellations. CN could be the hidden god a black/shadow planet(The did this in Dragonlance i believe) that only shows when it is on relief say on a bigger moon. CG A comet that has been pulled into orbit. The Hero deity. Was once mortal...

So what are your expectations for the human army...I mean an assissination of a political and beloved ruler won't be taken down. This may even pave the way for a strong LN millitant to take control and make it a very policed nation with emphasis on it's millitary? A lot of options here. I like it.

theres an awesome encounter with Paul S. Kemp's "Erevis Cale" series. this shadow dragon was covered in wraiths, could use something called the black speech wich was so wicked and blasphemous it induced vomiting, pain, and bleeding from ears.

Beninhb has some great advice. You may just consider asking them before the session actually starts. Recap "This is what has happened so far. Your options are this(list the three you mentioned). Then just ask them realistically where they want to go." I assume you are fine with the direction...

Mentors are always great tool. Even if the PC's don't want them. So they go to this cave or to the cave and there is a big nasty beastie. Above their paygrade. They spar with it realize it's out of their league. Just as all hope is lost the calvary shows up. Uncorrupted Paladins, Corrupted ones...
