Rogues stealing from their own party

:D Kenders don't have to be annoying...all the time. They can be a handful though. But really when it comes to them taking things, they're more likley to take the wrapper your rations came in, rather than your magick sord. The 3E settings do make the Halflings similar to kenders, but there...

Rogues stealing from their own party

I usually tell any "shady" characters players that when it comes to stealing within the party, it creates nothing but discord and infighting among the group and nobody in the end has fun playing. The ONLY times I let that slide is if someone in the group is a Kender, or has a Kleptomainiac...

    Fantasy Races and Originality

I find nothing wrong with the standard races, each can be built to be culturally different from the norm without having to give them wings or extra arms. ;) Strange though, nobody's brought up Humans at all. You could pattern hundreds of different races/people/cultures from them alone and keep...

Real-World Weapon Roster - Add yours

Gaqivuq North America>Arctic Canada> Inuit (eskimo) > Neolithic to modern. Yes it is still used. It's about 6'-8' long usually made out of bone, wood, and sinew. Metal is used in more modern ones. On a good strike it could seize and hold size S and smaller. Kind of like a Trident with...

    AD&D 2E 2E xp or not 2E xp?

That's kinda the way I was going to go. Just standardize the xp values. In 2E an Orc was 15-30xp whether you were lvl 0, or lvl 20. Even with creature xp being significantly lower, the 3.5 xp tables are much more forgiving when it comes to advancement. Who here remembers having to get 2500xp...

    Best Warrior/Mage Combos

Mixing Fighter/Warmage would be neat, you get to keep your armor light or medium, you have d6 Hp instead of d4...and by the time anything gets close to you it's already been softened up by your spells. I don't know if you even need a PRC with that selection, the base character could be pretty cool.

    Explain Magic: The Gathering

To make is simple, It's Chess with cards. To explain how to play the game could be rather long (as ye may have seen so far). So here's a 3 step overview. 1) Each player starts with 20 life, the first to reach 0 loses, although there are other ways to lose too. 2) 1/3 of your cards are land...

    Need help: elf sorcerer 1

-At lower lvls Sleep would also be a handy spell. -A familiar to help you with Chill touch could help also in combat. -Mirror Image will also help with the Familiar also. I'm thinkin if she's going to be with other people she may not need many offensive spells, but if soloing I would say...

    AD&D 2E 2E xp or not 2E xp?

I've noticed alot of banter about the lower levels advancing rapidly in levels in 3 & 3.5E. I was wondering if anyone has used the Standardized XP for creatures and such from 2E and if they have, how did it work for you? I'm seriously considering giving it a try.

    Stupidest things PCs/DMs have done

I just remembered another one where the Player drank too many beer when playing. Him and his companion entered the first level of a tower that was sticking out of the ocean. The room had a large portion of its wall collapsed allowing the ocean and tide to flood it up to knee level. Because...

    Stupidest things PCs/DMs have done

    1) A favourite of mine was a player who's greed always got the better of him. If I ever wanted to test a trap, I just put a gold piece on the floor, and I wouldn't be able to finish the description of what's around it before he blurts out, "I grab it". Usually after bitten once or twice you'd...

    Figures Have Spoiled Me

I've usually been stuck in narrative mode, but that's mostly I can't afford any minis whatsoever. However, as of late I did grid off a whiteboard for drawing out maps and tried using bits of Lego for minis. The minis on the map do help a bit, especially when adjucating spell AOE, and range...

Smart vs. Intelligence and Combatless Roleplaying Sessions

:D They did have fun. And found some very creative ideas. In the end they learned a valuable lesson on overassumption. "I don't know the password." I'm going to remember that one, I like it.

    Would YOU play AD&D 2e?

If I were to crack out my old 2E books I'd end up taking the stuff out of it that I wasn't fond of and put in some 3E stuff that I think would work well with it....I'll call it 2.9 edition...or maybe just 4th edition to make it simple

What do you think when DM introduces old PC as an NPC?

I have had DMs use old PC's on occasion and have run into what was feared the most...the rest of us being observers or henchmen to the guy. I have used my PC's as NPC's, but I try to have a good reason for it or a good story hook. Currently I'm doing it right now. The NPC had buddied up with...

Smart vs. Intelligence and Combatless Roleplaying Sessions

:D I'm not as cruel as you think...First I did mention that they were stubborn players. Shadowdale wasn't very far away and they already had an appointment with Elminster, all they had to do was go back, and I'd shoo them back up there with a rock. But Noooooo they wouldn't leave the summit...

Smart vs. Intelligence and Combatless Roleplaying Sessions

The going home part reminded me of some stubborn players I had. Sometimes the simplest puzzle will wrack your brain even when you're sitting on the answer. These guys had to go to the Elemental plane of earth, and had found the gate on the summit of a mountain. They had enough hints...
