It seems needlessly punishing the player though. If you allow rolling scores, I think you should anticipate PCs will start with 20s on occassion. Then when they get to take a feat, they gain only "half" the benefit of the feat because they are denied the ASI... Had the player rolled a 17...

Ok, you need to be a bit clearer. If you are referring to my suggestion that the +1 ASI goes to the lowest ability because CHA (in this case) is already maxed out, I don't expect it to be terribly useful. You've already maxed out CHA, so instead of the +1 ASI being completely wasted, put it...

I disagree. The difference between 18 and 20, the +1 modifier, is hardly noticable at all due to the swinginess of the d20. EDIT: I mean this in comparison to the benefits of a full feat, for instance, and the amount of "power" and/or enjoyable play experience it grants compared to that +1...

:rolleyes: I guess I didn't make my point clearly enough. You can cap out the game at 16s and +3s and it plays great, letting it go to 20s and +5s really doesn't change the experience that much. Other features offer a lot more in terms of power and enjoyment of the game experience than the...

But the power really is often less in the ability score and more in the feature. Option A: +2 ASI Option B: +4d6 damage on every attack Option C: +8 AC etc. A +2 ASI, earning a meager +1 modifier increase, will never give you better DPR than +4d6 damage or make your survival better than +8 AC...

Then you've never been exhausted to the point of 5 levels in DND. shrug That sounds more like it in my opinion.

1) They should have put the +1 race bump in CHA instead of the +2 at 1st level. 2) As it is, I would put the +1 in their LOWEST ability, not allowing them to just put it wherever else they want.

Sidetrack but I used to love Babylon 5 when it aired. I tried watching it just a couple weeks ago--man, it is really bad. I couldn't even get through the first episode. I honestly didn't remember it being that terrible to me.

Awesome work! I think others should do the same, but then compare lists afterwards to see what overlaps and what might be different. :) I might do it this weekend, myself, and if @Charlaquin does as well we could have at least three to compare.
