Classes and Roles: supply and demand

The invoker is about as sexy as a geriatric ex-librarian with contacts. She may have some good bits but she's still saggy and boring. The Wizard is the plan B girl. It's not the one you wanted, but she could do. The Druid the only actually sexy invoker but she'll only date people her own...

    Monk Feedback

I made this thread so that we could gather all the feedback for the monk in one place. Feedback designers can actually use instead of for example proclaiming our surprise that it's a psionic class. I'll start off: The At-Wills lack an upgrade for level 21. Usually at level 21 powers do extra...

Monk playtest: Is Unarmed Attack a weapon or an implement?

I thought it was a weapon that can be used AS an implement for powers that have the implement keyword. Mark my words that distinction will come back some day.

Cosmic & Storm Sorcerers: EPIC FAIL!

I'm just curious why when these come up we always try to somehow, some way make WotC's mechanics make sense. We rarely just admit that it's arbitrary, no, we try to make them make sense. This, amongst quite a few other threads is a testament towards that remarkable human ability for suspension...

So, what happened to the Design writeup on Expertise?

I'm rather bitter, don't you think? I'm sorry but it should be out this month. Next month at the latest, after that they're just being silly. It's been over 5 weeks already. They should KNOW why they put the feat in, I assume they had a reason and they didn't just use a ouija board. It seems...

Why do dragons do so little damage?

*sighs* One of these days I'm going to learn how to sleep more then once every two days. Even then a Dire Bear STILL does more damage with his claws then the White Dragon.

Why do dragons do so little damage?

The advantage of the Dragon (besides a lot of hit points, extra AP and higher saving throw) ) seems to be that it gets to fly and have very cold breath (slow and weakening opponents). It's Cold Breath seems to be one of its more potent weapons as it makes the enemy weaker (causing the player to...

Why do dragons do so little damage?

Disclaimer: I am not a mathematician. Compared to the Dire Bear the Level 11 Black Dragon has +1 to attack. However it still doesn't seem to fit. But let's take the White Dragon, raise him up two levels (+2 to Attack and +1 to damage, amongst other things) and we can compare a level 11 Solo...

    The Sandbox And The Grind

A way to players from hitting low level encounters too much is to tie exp on getting treasure and fulfilling quests rather then killing monsters. That means that once the quest is fulfilled and the treasure stolen, they simply can't get any more exp there. They CAN of course grind low levels...

    The Sandbox And The Grind

The solution for both higher-then-level encounters and Solo's would be to increase the damage and reduce the health points of the monster(s). We should make somekind of solid guidelines for this. For example we should realize that damage needs to go up x% for every y% HP goes down. It would be...

    MM2 Excerpt: Heroslayer Hydra

It needs something to simulate the "the heads not growing back when seared by fire" thing. I don't think we have a Hydra in 4th edition yet that can simulate the legendary one from Greek myths (except a player created one that I found right after the MM1 came out)

    Arcane Power- Wizards Stretched Thin

Shouldn't that be "if the target does not land by the end of his turn, it crashes"? This would allow the Sorcerer to use his Standard action as well to move himself even further. The way you say it makes it seem as if he can only use one movement action to fly before crashing. I'm also not sure...

    Dead Devas

Actually since time and space don't work in the Feywild as it does in the normal world they have different ways of measuring time. An eek is a time unit roughly analogous to a week on the prime material plane. the difference is that it is altered by a "subjective time factor" which is determined...

    Dead Devas

I actually came across this problem when redesigning Eladrin months ago and came to the following solution: Their bodies don't reincarnate yet. They just stay there for a few eeks before dissolving away. It would fit with Deva's as well.

    Any tips on racial write-ups?

Just write something down, anything. Even if you end up deleting it it's one of the best ways to get over writers block.

Half-Elf Emissary - weirdest paragon feature

    1) Actually it's quite simple to have a language problem. All that has to happen is that someone in the party knows a language that the Bard doesn't, which is quite easy if the Bard doesn't take the language feat. Especially if your DM chooses what language each nation speaks with a random roll...

Half-Elf Emissary - weirdest paragon feature

I like my solution. Don't allow it. There's more then enough paragon paths. Ignore the worst of WotC's blunders and just go on.

Half-Elf Emissary - weirdest paragon feature

So.. nobody thinks it a bit odd that a paragon path supposed to be for diplomats does not make you a better diplomat but everyone else in your party? I think I'll simply ban this path and go on from there. Maybe change the "group diplomacy" trait while I'm at it

Half-Elf Emissary - weirdest paragon feature

The Half Elf Emissary (Bard Paragon class from Arcane Power) has a really weird class feature. At level 11 it gets the following: Now, the odd thing about this is that I presume that if someone plays the Bard, especially if they choose the Emissary paragon class is that they want to be "Face"...
