Can someoone explain the "Daily Hate" for me?

Poppycock. I do some karate, kickboxing, and krav maga, and I've never strained a set of muscles to any such degree that it mattered like a daily. Or to put it another way, unless you've injured a certain muscle, muscle fatigue is never the bottleneck for pulling off a second move. Martial arts...

are you more interested in 5e or numenera?

I voted 5E but I'm also excited by the possibilities that Numenera offers: My take on the Nine Eras

Monte Cook's new RPG: Numenera [UPDATED]

OK, instead of complaining about the billiion years, let's come up with era-by-era ideas. I'll start: * * * 1st era: Humans became transhuman and ascended to another dimension (ie became "gods") 2nd era: A new generation of humanity evolves from DNA seeds (part of a renewal process initiated...

Monte Cook's new RPG: Numenera [UPDATED]

Maybe after a billiion years, the Earth isn't even the original Earth anymore. It was destroyed after the 4th era, inhabited by space dolphins in the 5th era, and completely rebuilt by hyperintelligent pan-dimensional beings (ie., mice) in the 6th era. And if you travel from Earth 2.0 to the...

D&D 5E (2014) With Respect to the Door and Expectations....The REAL Reason 5e Can't Unite the Base

That's the beauty of that solution. You choose a character concept that justifies dangerous risk taking [author stance at character creation] furthered by the DM designing adventures accordingly [director stance] allowing you to be in actor stance for most of the adventure at least for that...

Monte Cook's new RPG: Numenera [UPDATED]

If elves say something about us, then there could be a theme about how a long lifespan affects society and other interesting elven questions. D&D generally doesn't ask questions like this, and plays elves like humans with pointy ears. Asking why elves aren't higher level, more powerful, more...

D&D 5E (2014) With Respect to the Door and Expectations....The REAL Reason 5e Can't Unite the Base

Firstly, I don't know about others, but I've just been half speculating, half musing, half analyzing my own likes/dislikes. Although I have some opinions, I didn't go so far as to say anything about "bad" 4e mechanics. Why you are so frustrated? Stop pulling your hair, take a deep calming...

D&D 5E (2014) With Respect to the Door and Expectations....The REAL Reason 5e Can't Unite the Base

I was ambivalently following your post until this last section I don't follow. Assume there are 2 groups of people: 1) those who read the rules, decide they don't like the system, have a preconceived agenda before game play, and when they play, their dislikes get in the way 2) those who read...

D&D 5E (2014) With Respect to the Door and Expectations....The REAL Reason 5e Can't Unite the Base

Is the above example of the character that stupidly goes down the tunnel an example of pawn stance? More often than not, in an example like that, the screenwriter was clearly prioritizing the narrative over being true to character. The director or screenwriter may have retroactively "motivated"...

D&D 5E (2014) With Respect to the Door and Expectations....The REAL Reason 5e Can't Unite the Base

Good question. Maybe, although I agree with @billd91 that something like action points could be labelled as dissociative, and yet not necessarily interfere with immersion. On another note, let's say you're fully immersed in a compelling movie. Then the protagonist does something stupid like go...

Can someoone explain the "Daily Hate" for me?

Why should he? Are you paying him for this time? :) In addition to other cons mentioned so far, and I'm going to purposefully use hyperbole, but I find that the daily can be a Slayer of in-game Hope. Golly, I hope a hit a home run! Ugh, well, I'll try to hit a home run next inning! Holy moly...

D&D 5E (2014) With Respect to the Door and Expectations....The REAL Reason 5e Can't Unite the Base

I think in classic D&D, it's quite frequent to step back from character to some degree and try to reconcile X to Y. I think that "not roleplaying" (your phrase, not mine) refers to not seeing X or not caring about X relative to Y. Let's say that you want your PC to join the party [Y]. The...

D&D 5E (2014) How much should 5e aim at balance?

Good post. Today's D&D Next Q&A gives me hope that someone out there is listening to the feedback, and -- pertinent to this discussion -- I like the presentation: it seems to go to great efforts to associate the mechanics to the fiction: Back to Ratskinner's post, so a fighter could be cracking...

Can someoone explain the "Daily Hate" for me?

I never thought I'd hear a new serious dealbreakers until I heard this awful idea going around. There seems to be enough players who hate the idea of a fighter who is reliant on magic weapons and armor to be effective; I am fairly confident that a wizard class that relies on gold to recharge...

Can someoone explain the "Daily Hate" for me?

A swimming race is not the equivalent of a single action round. In olympic javelin throwing, they have 3 attempts to throw a javelin. Same with the shot put. If they had the equivalent of action points, I bet the athletes could physically try again. I really don't think the olympic analogy helps...

Can someoone explain the "Daily Hate" for me?

Buying potions and scrolls and wands, or spending money to buy components to craft potions and scroll wands, is already a possible mini-game. An artificer class or theme could be a way of expanding that concept. I just don't want to see it applied to the general wizard class. The usual wizard...

Monte Cook's new RPG: Numenera [UPDATED]

Hi! Thanks for being here. Is there an overall theme of humanity evolving, transforming and self-destructing over and over and over and over and over and over and over and potentially for the 9th time?

Can someoone explain the "Daily Hate" for me?

Myself, I don't hate dailies, I would just prefer to see alternatives. From the perspective of verisimilitude for martial dailies specifically, well, never mind. That's an Enworld Vietnam that I'm not willing to get drafted into. Psychologically, I wouldn't want to have my PC in a ball game...

D&D 5E (2014) How much should 5e aim at balance?

I think the other side of that is that dailies make a fighter more fun and tactical Anyway, your question was "But who is saying that D&Dnext should not be able to support sim/immersive play?" Well, if the "4e crowd" insists on martial dailies in 5E for whatever reason, they're chipping away...
