    Every Edition is a Failure

Guessing what's going on in Big Daddy Hasbro's head is an exercise in futility. Honestly? I see the brand going in other directions other than just RPGs, and the board games are a good example of a strong Win for what started as a side project. Wouldn't surprise me if there was a Forgotten...

[In the style of Daztur] XP Rewards vs. XP Awards

I suppose we can start using "achivements," like a Killtacular and a validation sticker to put on their character sheet if the fighter is lucky enough to cleave 5 kobolds in a row.

    Every Edition is a Failure

Seems to me that the biggest threat to the industry is how persnikity it seems many people are getting over the tinyist of details. Then again, I'm an inclusivist, and if I see something in one system that I can use in another, I'll rip it off the way the English language steals words from other...

    You're playing it wrong

Let me tell you a little story... I started playing during the heyday of 3.5. When I looked throught the core rulebook, I decided to play an elf paladin. I was warned that it was going to be a bit tricky, especially for a first time player, because elf paladin isn't optimised. I also played...

    Every Edition is a Failure

I expect that a mod will step in soon, though. This is getting rather flamebaity with a side of edition warring.

    Blog: Paladin vs. Cleric, fight!

I guess I've been playing it wrong, because my longest running character is a paladin and he never was relegated to "party support crew." Granted, his 4e version would probably be an Avenger (but not Pathfinder's Inquisitor's class). Boosting and healing allies is the Cleric's job. The...

    Miniatures: Lego?

It might get me to buy Kreo, unlike the Transformer stuff because you have to take it apart to transform it. Then again, I'm kinda crazy. Kreo Transformers do seem to be selling this time around (Unlike the first time Hasbro tried "lego" transformers). Oh, there's a thriving used market for...

    Flavors of Elf

I know what you mean - mechanically, Alfari and Telfari aren't any different unless someone needs one to be Eladrin. Drow are drow, but I'd even make them mechanically a lot similar to Alfari/Telfari than they usually are. Dunfari and Kinfari don't need a mechanical difference unless one wants...

    Flavors of Elf

W00t! Responses.. 1. By "Systemless" I mean it was tied to Pathfinder, but I'm freeing it up so that it could easily be adapted to other systems - like 4e or upcoming 5e. Since I've made that decision, it's been rather liberating. Before, I felt like I had to try and shoehorn everything...

    Flavors of Elf

Well, snap...I though these descriptions would spawn more replies of interest or people wanting to read more. Hrm. Methinks I need to try and find a better venue for constructive critisism.

    Blog: Paladin vs. Cleric, fight!

"In brightest day, in blackest night, no evil shall escape my sight! Let those who worship evil's might, beware my power.. Green Lantern's Pelor's light!" Yep, that would work. I'm fine with having Paladin disjunctioned from an alignment al la 4e, but still having to live by an appropriate...

All giants live in the sky!

Planar "sinkhole?" The world is made up of various planes scrunched together at one "point." Layered like a cake - (bottom to top) void/darkness, abyss, hell, fire, earth, water, air, celestial. Volcanos are fire poking through the Earth plane, dry land pokes through the water plane (oceans)...

    WotC yanks the rug out

That explains Skyrim...and Futura is a very readable font. Fancy gothic fonts can be harder to read on a screen, and there are a lot of people who still have low-rez CRT tubes.

Complete Redesign of D&D 5E Info Page!

Sweet! I was wondering if you were still planning on using my sig logo or not :D BTW, if anyone else is interested, you can find a higher rez version of that logo here. Use it if you want, credit is appreciated.

    Flavors of Elf

Current write-up of elves and elf-related races for my current campaign setting (recently gone systemless). Depth into their cultures has more to do with individual regions of the world, and I want to leave a decent amount of fuzzyness. Plus I don't want it to read like a bad sociological paper...

When you first read up on a race...

I suppose for me it really comes down to the importance of the first paragraph. If a splat or handbook doesn't point out something significantly different about this setting's or this game's dwarves, elves, halfllings, etc. I may eventually get around to reading through the entire description -...

When you first read up on a race...

Does anybody really read past the first paragraph or two in a core book or splat before skipping down to the stats? On occassion I might, but usually I read just far enough in to see what the basic flavoring is, unless it's a campaign setting. "Hrm...elf..what flavor? French polynesian samuri...

    Handling Cheating

As a DM I cheat, but only when "Da Rulez" get in the way of fun. As a player, I don't (well, except maybe by accident with keeping track of ammunition). So long as players aren't obvious about it, it's not an issue - unless it's bad Metagaming. Hefty metagaming ticks me off.

Looking for a new ruleset for my group

I know I ripped off a few DM concepts from 4e for my Pathfinder games. I never need the whole stat-block or spell lists for monsters from the Bestiary. Heck, I've considered ripping off 5e's "roll using core stat" over regular skill checks.
