Forked Thread: Do nonmagical 1/day abilities damage suspension of disbelief?

Oh, no. WoW makes sense. So does any other major MMORPG. You just have to add in a bit of backstory. Shortly before the characters were introduced, something extremely bad happened to the local god(ess) of time. Something so horrible that it was driven completely and totally insane. Now...

Should NPCs Have to Follow the Same Rules as PCs?

Agreed. At the risk of creating an internet backdraft by mentioning video games, one of the things I most liked in Final Fantasy Tactics was that all but a handful of enemies were not only built with the same rules as your party, but also recruitable. I don't like the explanation that...

What do you do if you see SPAM?

Hmm... so all those members overconcerned with postcount have an incentive to report spam. I like it.

    Old Master Bug List.

Odd that I'm getting this when my browser is fullscreen at a resolution of 1024x768, then. It's not like I can use anything higher on my laptop. The badges are also a little too large... would it be too much to ask to make them only 150 px in width? Even if I adblock them, they still appear...

    Old Master Bug List.

Text overflow on main page - The "EN World 2 Has Arrived" box is sized to fit the picture, rather than the text. The other boxes are sized that way too, but that one is most noticeable. Currently using Firefox 3.0, no special font size configurations, on XP professional. Also, could you...

You don't like the new edition? Tell me about it!

And I say it's lame that you have to worry about players breaking the game. I just don't see the point. If you value powerful characters over everything else, play Pun-Pun* Otherwise, what's the point? Since power is obviously not the main goal of a character, the question becomes...

    What is wrong with 4E?

You can. Use the gestalt rules and give half the exp to that character. As a consequence of lower level characters getting more exp, and lower levels taking less exp to level up, the character's level will stabilize around 1 or 2 levels behind the party. This has the side effect that at...

    What is wrong with 4E?

If I wanted to play a game like 4e, I'd rather play Descent. If the combat mechanics don't seem integrated with the rest of the game, I'd rather choose something that focuses really well on combat. The encounter methodology of 4e makes me think more of cutscene-triggered random-encounters...

    20% item resale value: impossible!

Good to know. I'll have my adventurers buy from the used items store. That way I can pick up twice as much stuff!

    Gelatinous Cube vs. Swap Places

I run over, leap at the last second, catching the back of my foot on his shield. Surprised by my sudden move, he doesn't expect when I suddenly kick back, finishing my leap over the warrior, forcing him to stagger forward as my feet push back on the shield. I hit a three-point landing, and...

    [3.5] Most bizarre—yet playable—character concept

Dude. You could totally play a sandwich. Or, more seriously, an intelligent helmet or piece of armor or sword.

    Funniest idea at table

I think there are a couple of magic items that differentiate. Doesn't salt water work better for summoning water elementals?

Rituals take too long and creative casting is dead

The impossibility of making a decent illusionist has made 4e a no-sell for me. This isn't the only problem I have with the edition, just an example of the systematic issues I have with it. I'm glad I can read about it online before buying.

    Problem with high level wizards....

I guess it's just that the default time of 10 minutes really gets on my nerves. That, and the "everything costs money" aspect of it. I'd rather be able to do neat things for free and pay for generic scorch and shift with cash. Meh, I suppose I'll just avoid picking up any of the other 4e...

    Problem with high level wizards....

Well, it looks like it will be impossible to play my illusionist in 4e. No way to have a trickster illusionist when any decent illusion takes ten minutes to cast.

What should guard this bad guy's lair?

A glass construct. It's filled up with templated octopus and water elemental. At high tide the octopus goes out to hunt, at low tide it brings back its prey and sleeps.

    Bah! Foiled again!

At least they didn't flip it over on its back. Then they could have used their attacks to inflict massive damage upon its weak point.
