Why are people not interested in RPG?

I think negative and false preconceptions are an enormous stumbling block. I've "converted" several gamers in the last few years, and many of them came to table with some odd preconceptions about what gaming entailed. My wife was *convinced* that gaming involved some weird ritual we all took...

    Customer Service Kudos

It just gives you a warm feeling in your belly, no? A few months back I took my recently purchased (and new to me 2008 Ford Fusion) in to the dealer I bought it from for it's annual inspection. I dropped it off, and asked them to do the inspection, and an oil change, since it was due for that...

This Weekend @ The Boxoffice: 2012

Eh, they're all just biding their time until Brave destroys them all this weekend.

New RPG Company Casting All Women for Genesys

If gaming was a larger, more represented hobby in the mainstream world, I'd think this was nothing more than someone with no experience in the gaming community trying to cash in on a marketing segment they didn't already have their grubby hands in with SEXY SEX. Like it's someone with some...

Kingmaker AP question: running as goblins creating a goblin nation?

Not just a land free of dogs - a land potentially free of horses, too! And filled with all the fireworks you could possibly hope to ignite!

Kingmaker AP question: running as goblins creating a goblin nation?

It's certainly possible. As Crothian said, it would take some work on the GM's part, but I would think Kingmaker would be a good starting point.

    Prometheus [Spoilers]

Full disclosure, I've seen approximately 5 minutes of the entire Aliens franchise of films, and won't be seeing Prometheus, either. The xenomorphs scare the bejeezus out of me. Case-in-point, I allowed myself to be cajoled into riding the Aliens ride at Universal Studios with some friends...

Snow White and the Huntsman (spoilers)

Finally got around to seeing it with my wife. I wanted to like it - it was a dark fairy tale/fantasy story, on screen, that wasn't LotR. It was another property that had the chance to expand the fantasy genre on the big screen with a large budget and...and... yeah, I'm a genre fan, and I...

    Stanley Cup Playoffs 2012

That's so foreign to me - the Flyers have plenty of black and latino fans. Hell, even the Flyers' rich, very white owner sponsors an inner-city ice hockey league, which, to be honest, probably helps too. =/

Anyone want a 1-way ticket to Mars?

I'd totally go*, but only because I think it would be really cool to finally be a member of the Conjoiners. . . . . . *Assuming the wife will give me permission, that is.

    Stanley Cup Playoffs 2012

Does L.A. actually care about hockey? I was under the distinct impression that the entire city and region would forget about winning the Stanley Cup about 20 minutes after winning the 4th game. =/

    [June] What Are You Reading?

Fighting through Wizard's First Rule. Wouldn't consider myself a fan. But dammit, I'm going to finish the book. Then, probably Don't Know Much About Mythology: Everything You Need to Know About the Greatest Stories in Human History but Never Learned. We'll see.

    Stanley Cup Playoffs 2012

As a dedicated Flyers fan, I am torn. On one hand, I'm happy as can be that Simon Gagne sits 1 game away from getting his name on Lord Stanley's Cup. I'm delighted for Justin Williams, whose name and number adorn the back of my custom stitched Flyers' sweater. I'm glad that Mike Richards, he...

How are you accessing the D&D Next playtest materials?

I chose the "WotC's website" option, since I did manage to eventually obtain the material legitimately. However, until that was actually possible, I had initially downloaded the files from a Google Docs mirror. =/

    [May] What are you reading?

I've been warned about the series in the past, but always heard the first book was worth the read. I sincerely doubt that prior advice is accurate after about 15% of the book. Ugh. I honestly don't know if I can continue it, despite my desire to just finish it to say it's been read. It's...

    [May] What are you reading?

Finished Ghost Story and Just a Geek. Now reading Wizard's First Rule and I hate it. I guess I'll finish it, so I can say I read the book, but I've realized that I am sick and tired of the standard fantasy formula and tropes. Soooooo sick of them.
