What are the wierdest things you've learned gaming?

In addition to this, eating human brains gives you an equivalent of mad cow disease; there is no other way of getting this (you get different prions from cows.) But I don't think I learned that from gaming.

Arcane Spell Failure with Shield and Armor

Search is taking me to a blank page, so I'll just ask this: If a wizard is wearing armor with an arcane spell failure chance of 10% and has a heavy shield (ASF = 15%), he rolls ASF twice, once against 10% and once against 15%, correct? Thanks

    How hot is red-hot iron?

So I shouldn't fight fire elementals during the day? It will in my campaign from now on :p .

What can gray slaads do with their item creation feat?

As I recall, the caster level requirements just tell you the caster level for items found in treasure hordes. They are not prerequisites.

Attn: Users under the age of 20 (or thereabouts)

Under 20? You should have caught me 4 days ago... The people I play with in Boulder (where I go to school) are younger than 30 and older than me. The people I play with in Fort Collins (which is about an hour away, and where I am from) are mostly my age, though our DM is 27.

    Mountains

:D The Flatirons are just awesome to look at (I go to school in Boulder). Horsetooth is pretty cool too(I'm from Fort Collins), and I've hiked it several times (I asked out my last girlfriend on top of Horsetool Rock :p ) I love hiking in the mountains, but the best way to travel mountains is...

    tactical advantages in combat?

Being on higher ground gives a +1 bonus to melee attacks, and I think a bonus to range increment equal to the height difference, though I'm not sure about that. I am certainly a fan of tactical feats, but many good tactical options already exist in the game; see tables 8-5 and 8-6 on page 151 of...

    Elminster is evil!

I can get recruited into a demon worshipping cult and gain evil powers by going to gaming conventions? I never knew I was missing so much; I'm going to GenCon this year!

    1st level forever: an experiment

I think greatly reducing hit point and magic item aquisition accomplishes this very well. Giving characters 1/3 as many hit points (fractions are kept for the purpose of advancement, but not for use during play - just like half-ranks for skills) and some fraction of the items will make it a lot...

What would a medieval fantasy world (like GH or FR) be like in the far future?

It seems to me that a lot of the research has been done for any scientist in many D&D worlds - but it's scattered throughout a bunch of magical texts. A wizard who spent some time figuring out what the world did without the intervention of magic (i.e. the sciences) could probably piece some...

    Shows that I hate!!! Rant

Kill the rich girls and take their stuff. Tithe some to the chocolate shop and the jewelry store to make your fiance happy. I was going to tell you to kill your fiance and take her stuff, but that seemed a poor plan... What's this TV thing you're talking about, anyway?

    Worn out scenes

I hate when the hero has to choose between saving the world/a bunch of innocents and his girlfriend, chooses his girlfriend, and still saves the world/innocent people. Best example I can think of is in Spiderman. On a related note, I hate it when heroes with deontological ethics (D&D alignments...

    D&D math joek

Mwhahahahaha! Mathematics Yep, Euler's identity. e ^ x * i = cos(x) + i*sin(x) for any real number x (you calculator should be in radians, not degrees). The cosine of pi (180 degrees) is -1, and the sine is 0.

Book of Exalted Deeds - Exalted feat question

Exalted ~ Deontology. Kant presented the case of the inquisitive murderer, which goes something like: Bob is upstairs in your house, and a guy knocks on your door. "Hi, I'm looking for Bob so that I can murder him. Is he here?" Kant says that you should tell the murderer that Bob is there...

    Magic Jar and the Tarrasque

Once the mage realizes that he can't lower tarrasques SR, he'll hopefully just attack himself; I'm sure Tarrasque can damage itself fast enough to kill itself (or rather, make so the characters can cast wish and make it actually dead.)

Magic Item of Constant Protection from Evil

While it is good to say 'yes' more often, you shouldn't say yes to this item at that price. It's way too good. The item creation rules don't function without a DM to watch over them. There's also a question of believeability: if you allow this, then ask yourself why they characters haven't...

How does one roleplay a 49 Intelligence? Plus! Mega Super *BONUS* Questions!

For strength at least, +5 ability is x2 capability. Let's assume the same holds true for Intelligence. 23 intelligence is the most a human can ever achieve, so Albert Einstein had 23 int. Your character has 26 more points of intelligence, which makes you about 2^5.2 times smarter - which is to...
