    QB's Monstrous Races

Regrettably, I only had time to get back to this thread due to hitting a stretch of unemployment. Hopefully, a new job opportunity will develop soon. In a better world, RPGs would easily take precedence over needing to earn a paycheck, eh? I'm a bit alarmed at the idea of meeting a T. Rex...

    QB's Monstrous Races

I'm only familiar with the 4e bladeling, which lacks either an automatic or save-vs. type of damage to opponents in a grapple. Adding it here makes so much sense, especially since it is automatic damage. Imho, if it were save-vs., it would have to be a Wisdom saving throw at disadvantage...

    D&D 5E (2014) Protection Domain Reworked

This is good. One problem I have is with the UA article's wording, " ... cloak your allies ... " which implies that the feature should apply to more than one ally at the same time. Going on in the second paragraph to say it only applies to one ally per usage of Channel Divinity irks my sense...

    D&D 5E (2014) Little-Known Monster Facts

In 4e, there was an assassin build for the rogue class. One of the Paragon Paths included a type of assassin that could capture the soul of a creature it killed. I used that idea of capturing a soul as a prerequisite for the creation of any warforged PC/NPC. It could only be done using ritual...

    D&D 5E (2014) Little-Known Monster Facts

Back in the 80s, I had played the solo adventure, Maze of the Riddling Minotaurs. When I adapted it to run it as an adventure for my group, I needed to add some additional riddles, a form of humor that's never been my long suit. One of the riddles had something to do with blood, and the...

    D&D 5E (2014) Protection Domain Reworked

I agree with you about switching from Protection from Evil and Good to Shield of Faith. However, I'm on the fence regarding Protection from Poison. I view that spell like D&D's answer to an epi-pen: the need for it may be unlikely, but when it's needed, it's NEEDED. The change may be fluff...

    D&D 5E (2014) Need suggestions for Uthgardt Shaman 5e

I didn't know this. Finding out about this is like Krampus giving back everything he's taken from me over the years. This just became the best Christmas ever! (Laughing) Thank you, UngeheuerLich!

    D&D 5E (2014) Need suggestions for Uthgardt Shaman 5e

I totally missed the boat on the "thunderbeast" being an apatosaurus (technically, it was the now defunct label of brontosaurus that translates to "thunder lizard"). I just went my bird-brained way and thought of thunder-birds because of the connection to storms. Thanks for redirecting me on that.

    D&D 5E (2014) Need suggestions for Uthgardt Shaman 5e

Have you looked at the Unearthed Arcana Barbarian Primal Paths for the Path of the Storm Herald? i don't see anything counter-intuitive about a Shaman/Sorcerer mix. To me, a sorcerer is all about an innate linkage to magical powers, and makes more sense as a shaman than any cleric, warlock, or...

Played AD&D yesterday (using Appendix A for a random dungeon)

"... distilling the rules out of Gygax's PHB and DMG in a comprehensible form ..." This. Oh, sweet Lord, this. When I saw the organization of the 3.0/3.5 rule books, I almost jumped to my feet to dance. The only thing that stopped me was that I didn't want to stop reading. To this day, nothing...

    D&D 5E (2014) Worst Multiclass Challenge

Thank you for starting this Thread! It hurts my brain just thinking about it, but it's a challenge worth it's time.

    D&D 5E (2014) Worst Multiclass Challenge

This would take 11 levels just to gain 1 level in each class. Any cantrips would scale for character level damage for 11th-level (not-so-bad) but no ASIs would have been achieved since those are tied to class level. The proficiency bonus would have reached +4, but the most ASI bumps you could...

D&D 5E (2014) Ideas for campaigns with a single player?

Old solo adventures are available through sites such as DriveThruRPG.com. Most of them are older edition, so if you're using them to run a game using 5e rules, you'll have to update the stats on them. Also, a point of clarification. I believe if you're running an adventure for a single player...

    Hexblade/SpellBlade/Gish Blaster/Striker help building

Caveat: I'm thinking "out loud" below, as I'm having to consider things you've already thought about, but hang in there. I've got answers for you at the end. 1. Regarding the race: Take a look at the Revenant subrace for possible ideas about your character's race...

D&D 5E (2014) Possibly a bad idea, but what do you all think?

If you're younger than D&D itself, you might be a reincarnated grognard. (This is the scariest thought I've had so far today. Well, barring politics.) ;)

    D&D 5E (2014) Hive mind help?

Replace the percentile roll with a d20, and set the DC thresholds accordingly. This keeps the mechanic more in line with 5e, and accomplishes the same effect as Ath-kethin's very good idea.

D&D 5E (2014) The importance to "story" of contrivance

Coming up with any adventure is in itself an act of contriving, even in sandbox games. Everything in a sandbox game is potentially available to be re-contrived in unexpected ways. Contrivance is inventiveness, sometimes before a game session, and sometimes in the midst of a game. All rules...
